2018-2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class recalled in Australia

The fault could cause the front axle wiring harness to chafe, disabling the anti-lock brakes and stability control, according to the recall notice.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled 1624 examples of its 2018-2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class (G63 and G400d), citing a fault with the front axle wiring harness which could disable the anti-lock brakes and stability control safety systems.

The affected G400d and G63 AMG vehicles were built between 2018 and 2022.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing defect, the front axle wiring harness may come in contact with the oil cooler. As a result, the wiring harness may chafe and become damaged over time. This could impair the operation of safety systems such as the Antilock Braking System (ABS) and the Electronic Stability Program (ESP)."

"A loss of safety systems such as the Antilock Braking System (ABS) and the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road user and bystanders."
