2011 Holden Barina could be Chevrolet Aveo to debut at Paris show

By Brett Davis |

The Chevrolet Aveo will be debuted at the Paris Motor Show next month, which could be the upcoming Holden Barina as previously mentioned.

In standard Chevrolet Aveo form, the car is said to feature much of the same chunky body design features as the sporty-looking Aveo RS Concept model. Reports say Chevrolet is aiming to place the car into the small hatch market sector as a strong competitor, offering plenty of standard equipment throughout the range.

Chevrolet has confirmed the car will offer stability control and ABS brakes as standard as well as feature an energetic interior with an instrument cluster that resembles a motorcycle-like gauge setup.

Wayne Brannon, Chevrolet Europe head, said in a recent Automotive News report, that the new model “is ready to compete against the best in the small car segment, which is also Europe’s largest segment’. Sources say the car will be offered with a 1.3-litre diesel engine with stop/start technology to win over the European demands.

There’s been no confirmation that this Chev will be the next Holden Barina but it’s worth mentioning that the original Chevrolet Aveo RS Concept was actually built here in Australia at Holden’s Port Melbourne factory. Our bet is that this will be the 2011 Holden Barina.

    YUUUUCK!!

I didn’t think it was possible to get a car even uglier than the current Barina.

Definitely last in it’s class in terms of looks.

    • andronicus

Yeah it looks ugly enough to be a Barina.
It’s a pity because GM/Holden do seem to be heading in a (slightly) better direction style wise recently…..ever so slightly.

The Chevy badge is in the wrong place on the front – at least I hope it is, should be on the radiator grille. It really ruins the overall good aesthetics.

    • nick

And the other photo with the Holden front end looks just as wrong, the chrome doesn’t fit the car.

      • bob

The chrome doesn’t look right because its someones bad photoshop and not the actual Holden version, which probably wont have the chrome in it

    • Carter3310

Cars aren’t requried to have front number plates in most U.S. states, the placing of the Chevrolet bagdge was probably chosen with this in mind. Without a front plate the badge will look balanced in relation to the grille (at least I hope).

The current Chevrolet/Daewoo Aveos in Europe (our Barina) also have the Chevy badge on the bumper. It’s ghastly, but then in Europe they sell on price and price alone. In Australia they seem to sell on a mixture of price and misappropriated patriotism.

talk about copying mitsubishi lancer’s front. the lights look very identical to the lancer as well as the grill layout.

    • zahmad

Could mistake it for a new Colt!

  • Bold

GM, you’ve done it again …

  • Able

I don’t like it because it looks so similar to the old one! And don’t the headlights get any sort of cover!?

Still, Paris is onnanbe a big motorshow for Chevy!

  • Kangen

    Front top: lancer
    Front bottom: mazda3
    backside looks cheap.

  • AMPboy

    Looks just like a Polo!

    • JT

Polo looks much better than that.

    • Dear

      Are you kidding?

The Polo makes me splooge, this is cheap plastic.

  • http://www.ozmazdaclub.com Tien

The front end looks like the Mitsubishi Range (headlights, grille) The bottom half looks like it might have a bit of Mazda

The Chevy badge looks out of place and should be in the grille like the last picture with the Holden badge

I’m not really a fan of how the rear is shaped

The motorbike looking gauges are a bit different

  • Floyd

As mentioned before the front looks quite similar to the Lancer.

Also today morning (12:40am) I saw 2 Chevy/Holden Beat hatchbacks undergoing a test run on Collins Street (Melbourne CBD). They had their badges covered by tape and there was a Commodore following them. Any news when it will be launched?

    • bob

Apparently the dealer launch has already happened so we should be seeing it shortly.
And its the Spark, the Beat was the name for the concept car.

  • David

    I like it

  • ABMPSV

Nearly the same as the Honda Jazz size, engine kW…etc. Jazz boot is bigger by 100 liter. In Germany Aveo auto is $22,100. I will pick the Jazz

    • Richo

mate it hasn’t even been launched yet…

      • ABMPSV

It has been lunched in Europe!! Check the website. Litle face lift that is all.

      • F1MotoGP

Yes I saw it on the UK and German website. Aveo is there.

  • 70′s Datsun

    Definatly looks like a VW

  • Shak

While it may not be everyones cuppa, it will probably sell off of its price and fuel efficiency. And maybe they will offer an RS kit to make it resemble the Concept car. Maybe?

  • jj

now the girlfriends of bogans can have a car with chev badges to match their boyfriends v6 commodores!

    yay!

    • bangel

Best quote of the week JJ ,cant stop laffing , pity they dont do a ute then tradies can have mini me’s

    • Simo

to be more specific it is the DIY rebadged Chevy Commodore, and maybe also a 2 dollars SS badge from Ebay.

  • Igomi Watabi

    that dashboard is a disaster

  • Car Fanatic

The tail lights still look like they are half full of water, come on Holden, rebadge some more Opels, the new Astra and Insignia look sensational.

  • Byron

Looks awesome. Has a interesting interior & front end looks tough. Can’t wait till TK Barina is axed, since it’s been around for years & this one is a much much better improvement. I’m hoping this will overcome Yaris too. Look foward to seeing one in the metal. Go HOLDEN!
