Volkswagen Touareg Gets R Treatment

October 4, 2007 by George Skentzos

Making its world premiere in the coming weeks at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney is Volkswagen’s latest in its lineup to receive the ‘R’ treatment – the Touareg R50.

The R50 is one of the most powerful SUVs in the world, with official details yet to be announced, Volkswagen have promised a “generous” increase on the 230kW and 750Nm produced by the current V10 TDi model on which it is based.

The high-performance package is rounded out by bigger wheels and tyres and tweaked suspension all in a very handsome package.

The R50 marks the third addition to Volkswagen’s sporty R range, joining the impressive Golf R32 and Passat R36 which was recently launched at the Frankfurt motor show.

All three models share the same 4MOTION all-wheel drive to guarantee superb road holding in all conditions.

This is 1 mean SUV. Hope Next Ford Territory turns out like this thing.

  2. All Cars says:

I dont know about the most powerful, Merc ML/GL 450/500/63, BMW X5 4.8, Porsche Cayenne S/Turbo, Lexus LX570, and many many more SUVs are more powerful than this one.

  3. Benjie says:

    All cars…get a clue mate.

Aside from the 63 AMG ML and the Cayenne S/T, there is nothing stopping the R50 becoming the most powerful.

The regular V10 TDI dishes out 750Nm of torque! I can only imagine what the R50 will be like.

  4. tony says:

Agree Benjie – this will surely be the MOST powerful SUV when it launches

  5. Nick says:

that would look hot in black!

  6. Reckless1 says:

I wonder if it will retain the air suspension, or whether it will inherit some Cayenne suspension bits. I’d bet on the latter. If you put a DPChip in the standard Touareg, you get 272kw and 810nm, so a factory tweak of the engine should be able to deliver at least this much, and then you could still chip it!!

Cobra 302, the Territory will NEVER be like this thing :)

    I already want one……

  7. NICE: when one looks under front lights there is significant bumper bar with hotch potch finish as too much air intake and then lower level again with driving lights make it look more then a tad bizarre!

  8. fordman6 says:

    O.M.G! That is 110% hot! /licks lips
