Ford Focus RS Mountune upgrade matches RS500 power

By George Skentzos |

With all 101 examples of the limited edition Ford Focus RS500 already sold out across the UK, Ford is introducing a factory-backed Focus RS upgrade kit to meet the unprecedented demand.

Ford Focus RS owners can now turn up the power on their ‘regular’ 224kW superhatch with an extra 33kW and 20Nm of torque – matching the performance of the Focus RS500.

The MP350 RS kit brings the total power output of the Ford Focus RS to 257kW and 460Nm, and is priced at £1,995 or just over A$3,310.

Developed by Ford Team RS in partnership with Mountune Performance (MP), the package offers similar engine upgrades to the RS500 but misses out on other extras such as the matt black wrap finish.

The MP350 RS upgrade includes a larger intercooler and air filter box, larger diameter exhaust downpipe and a higher-capacity fuel pump, along with uprated software calibration, all the while keeping the factory warranty intact.

Mark Simpson, Ford Britain marketing director, said: “Focus RS500 has raised the Ford performance bar in every way – it’s the fastest-selling model in Ford’s UK history, with five times more customers than we had cars for.”

“The MP350 kit has been developed to meet some of this additional demand and allow enthusiasts with cars in standard tune to enjoy even greater performance, without endangering their warranty. If you couldn’t get an RS500, which sold out within seven days, this is the next best thing.”

what do they mean unprecedented. How could they not have predicted the success. They are just being modest. very very Very good job boys.

They mean exactly that, unprecedented, not unpredicted. Check the dictionary.

when i saw a picture of the rs i automatically thought they’re finally deciding to bring it to australia!?!?!?!?!

  • Nelson

    What about us Aussies?

Don’t we really ever get anything from the “modern” world?

I though we were an evolved 1st world country, we are even going to be the only modern country with a internet filter and never get the best cars. We have the worst drivers in the world, speeding is blamed for everything on our roads. Peole don’t know hot to perform a quick tight curve, no one basically knows how to drive manual. Boat people have more rights than a EU citizen fighting for their rights with a degree to enter the country. Our women don’t use G-Strings. The list goes and goes and goes.

Wake up and Smell the Carcass Australia!

We have the XR5 aka ST, sure its not got revoknuckle or the quafe etc. But these babies can be tuned and modded at such little cost that its ridiculous. And you can even have the quafe installed here by a competent ford dealer (Nova Ford in Caboolture aka Skunkworks is one of these).

They may not have the same body kit either, but trust me, they are a fantastic car that leave you smiling after every drive whether stock or modded. And trust me, when you drive them, the last thing you think of is its a compromise because we cant get the RS.

Our women don’t use G-Strings. lol

That is one seriously good looking car & I think it would do wonders for the Focus image if released here, even in very limited numbers & sold at a loss. Ford wouldnt be the first or last to do that in order to get image.

Just a shame we seem to miss out on a heap of great cars from most of the manufacturers.

Exactlly what I was about to say.

The Focus needs a big brother with some street cred to get the stock Focus sales moving.

Places like Woolies even sell certain products at a loss to get shoppers in the door. It in turn sells other products people may have bought else where.

Same deal selling cars, it will get the brand noticed and perhaps sell lower spec Focus’s to people who cant yet afford the Halo version

How many people buy base lancers and do them up as EVO’s??
How many people buy base Commodores and do them up as HSV’s

Ford’s new global plan of having the same car in different markets may work well for Australia with the next Focus, especially the RS version.
It’s unfortunate that we don’t have the same option as the Brits have in regards to ordering your XR5 with a tuning package that raises both the power and torque. This tuning package comes from the famed Mountune tuners and has dealership warranty!

    Thats cheap not including fitting….

Why cant we get the RS500 upgrade in Australia..
