Lexus IS wagon considered for Euro markets

By Matt Brogan |

With a view to expanding its appeal in Europe, luxury Japanese car manufacturer Lexus is reportedly considering a wagon version of its popular IS model.

Currently offered in sedan and convertible formats, a wagon variant of the IS would expand Lexus’ competition base against such rivals as the BMW 3 Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate, both popular sellers across Europe.

Lexus offered its first-generation IS with a little-known wagon variant called the SportCross, but ditched the model after US buyers, then the manufacturer’s main focus, failed to show interest.

It’s believed Lexus aims to re-introduce a wagon variant of the IS when the next-generation model appears early in 2011.

I just don’t see where the sales would come from – most of us would stick with our current wagons – Solara, BFIII, Commodore Sportswagon, Roomster etc

I dont think Lexus are looking at those buyers, People from BMW and Merc and others from SUV Segment

Haha, a Magna Solara is an IS rival? Watch out Lexus…

A wagon IS350 would be a nice tourer, as long as the wagon doesn’t have the same weird C-pillar as the C200h.

    Interesting :S

I think a GS wagon would also be interesting, especially in hybrid format. That way the battery could be built into the floor of the boot, so that the entry loading level will be a bit higher, but should compromise space less than it does in the sedan.

Just out of curiosity, what’s CA’s definition of a “sedan” as opposed to a “coupe” (ISx50C anyone?)
