2010 Kia Magentis teaser sketch

By George Skentzos |

Kia is continuing the roll-out of its sharp new design theme across its entire range by today previewing the next generation Kia Magentis.

Due to make its first global appearance at the New York International Auto Show in April, the new Kia Magentis has been completely transformed from the ground up.

Longer, lower and wider than the outgoing model, the new Kia Magentis embodies a bold, athletic and sporty visual energy while offering more space for both passengers and luggage.

While Australian availability is yet to be confirmed, the new Kia Magentis will go on sale in the US and other non-European markets later this year.

    Sweet!!

Another slap in Toyotas face by the Koreans?

  • CrustyTheClown

Will need to be low low $20′s otherwise will be like now where you can still currently buy new 2007 Magentis for UNDER $20k

    Nobody wants them….

    • Jinsei

Crusty, read my reply about GEMA on the ix45 post?

The Magentis was a decent car. Even a CA review gave it 4 stars out of 5 and said “its handling is on par with that of Mazda 6′ a few years ago.

It had a bigger engine, larger cabin than your BELOVED lancer and solid fit and finish. It was a mid-size sedan designed to compete with the likes of Camry not Lancer ES 2.0.

Given the current market perception of Kia, the new Magentis will have to be priced lower than its competition, but certainly it cannot be priced lower than a small car like the Lancer. You know it too and you are just joking around with it. You basically like to insult and make fun of anything Hyunda-Kia just because you bought a Lancer.

I like the Lancer too after sitting in a friend’s Ralliart the other day. But that doesn’t mean that the Lancer is the best car ever on earth so please stop intimidating people.

    • Martin

It’s not that no one wants them, it’s no one even knows the Magentis even exists.

    • Ken

The problem with the Magentis is simple – It was poorly marketed. I purchased my 2.4 luxury spec in 2006 and it has been a fantastic car. Never gives problems, runs great, still feels and looks like new after 75,000kms.
The Magentis reviews are all positive and from memory, their is a review where it was compared against the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata and new Holden Epica. The Magentis performed well in all the tests and was the surprise package of the bunch. Eventually, the Camry was declared the best due to better resale etc but that doesn’t make the Magentis a bad car. It drives nice, has enough power, has more features than cars worth more and is reliable.
Kia need to market their cars better to make a name for themselves in Australia. I would buy a KIA again without hesitation but a company needs new buyers not just repeat buyers to succeed.

I too love my Magentis.A very well built car and very underated by critics.Mine is a 2.4L auto model.People are stunned when they have a close look and realise it’s a Kia, it has been a case of poor marketing by the advertising gurus.I’ll keep mine it’s got 38,000ks now and still feels and looks new and with a full 5 year unlimited warranty why wouldn’t I?
A tip to other drivers I’ve starting using 98 BP premium fuel and found the gear changes smoother on cruise and often getting fuel usage down as low as 7.1L per 100 on country trips. Also you don’t hear of
Kia/Hyundai having to recall hundreds of thousands of cars with safety issues like Toyota.

  • mmmmm

someone tell Kia we’ve already seen the Hyundai i45, so we already have a fair idea of what its cousin will look like, yes it will be different but not hugely. The magentis will look more like the i45 than this silly teaser pic.

    • HyundaiSmoke

You have no idea of what you’re talking about they have spy videos from Edmunds on You Tube.

      Source??

  • crouchy

They need to change that name… its VERY off putting!

  • HyundaiSmoke

Not Going to Happen because this Magentis will be Magestic.

As usual, the fantasy rendering of the picture above, has no resemblance to the finished product being prototyped. Fantasy renderings like that shown which result in the very mediocre looking vehicle (comparatively) that will actually be delivered does nothing for a car company’s reputation.

      • SteveH

So you mean the real car won’t have 26 inch wheels and a roof line so low even a midget would struggle to get into it? No, surely not.

      • HyundaiSmoke

I think the Real Mc Coy looks like the Rendering, but its a stylized rendering.

  • Baddass

You guys are really taking this personally aren’t you? Shame is that when someone else provides an opinion (true or not) you protest childishly and call them names. I’m not convinced by this bullying stuff, ‘cos you guys aren’t the victims here. It’s mainly the bloggers who want to read an interesting article, and also have to put up with your nonsense posts. Stick to the school bullying website to sort out your probs, and leave us to talk cars. Nice Kia too.

    The Koreans are coming…

I love Mazda in the 80′s and 90′s and they showed how a small player became the number one selling car of private vehicles in australia.

In the same way I am enjoying how the Koreans will do the same and kick Honda and Toyota to the curb.

    Wish this came down under:

    daaaaaaaaayum

  • Robj

A squashed Cerento..If you think it will look like that as a finished product dream on. Poor driving dynamics and all..

  • Shak

Very good looking. if KIA can keep up their current crop of excellent vehicles, and their good marketing campaigns, they will \begin to overtake some larger more established brands.

Thought these would be applied in a few of the posts I see on this site. Can we just get back to talking about Cars???

  • HyundaiSmoke

Speaking about Sonata based cars, have any of you guys seen the reviews? Autoblog says Sonata Slaughters Camry, Fusion, Accord, and others say Sonata teaches the Luxury Companies like BMW and Benz a thing or 2.

Some journalists say you’re an idiot if you buy anything else. Most people compare it to Lexus ES350.

This car will be 2011 North American Car of the Year, especialy since its Slaughters the Fusion.

  • CrustyTheClown

Don’t bother with it, get the Cerato hatch here, that could sell in great numbers if loaded and priced right

    Cheers

  • The Oracle’s Teacher

The rendering is a teaser. Nothing more. Expect the released vehicle to adopt a similar style to the Cerato and that’s a good thing.
