2008 Ford Falcon Orion Spy Photos and Video - Fairmont Ghia Spied!

While our spy photographer takes a well earned break, a sharp eyed reader has spotted a high-grade Orion testing on the roads in Victoria. While two other readers have contributed video footage of Orions undergoing testing.

The vehicle spotted appears to be a Fairmont Ghia sedan, featuring several new features that are hoped to set the Falcon aside from the rest. The following pictures detail a general view of the car with an exceptionally loose car bra. Not only was the car bra slipping upward - blocking the number plate - it also revealed the contour of the edge of the front bumper bar.

The rear car bra was also slipping significantly, revealing an overt amount of the rear light cluster along with mild embossing of the boot lid. The vehicle spotted seems to be fitted with a lip boot-lid spoiler, indicating that the new Fairmont Ghia may be far more sports oriented than the previous generation.

The following photo of one of the uncovered wing mirrors reveals that side indicators will be used in the 2008 Ford Falcon. Whether they will appear only on upper models is a question yet to be answered. Considering every vehicle photographed so far has had covers on the wing mirrors, it wouldn’t be a surprise if all vehicles featured indicators in the wing mirrors.

Generally, when indicators are fitted to the wing mirrors, side repeaters on the body become redundant. Our theory is that all cars that have been road registered, have had side repeaters fitted to comply with registration requirements, in a bid to keep the wing mirror identity secret. One point that generally affirms that is the different shapes used as repeaters. Earlier a triangle shape was used and on this vehicle pictured above, oval shaped repeaters have been used.

It can now also be confirmed that upper models - such as the Fairmont Ghia (or its new named replacement) - will feature an auto-dimming rear vision mirror. Although it’s not revolutionary technology, it’s about time Ford implemented it.

The driver of the Orion prototype also saw fit to hail our reader with the two finger salute…concentrating entirely on the road.

Orion Typhoon is going to be awesome………..if I only had the money to buy one !!!!! Fuck the V8’s……….this is the best engine anywhere. Maybe I can save my money and buy the last I6 Typhoon in 3 years time. That would be a great investment !!!!!!!

TYPHOON IS AWESOME but please dont overlook the Ghia, the BF2 Ghia is a top car that deserves more accolades given its quality and driving qualities. I Havn’t been in a V8, the 6 cyl with 6 speed auto is plenty. The current car is beautiful, so the styling should make it look even better. If anyone wants to see where Ford is at today look closley at one of these cars and see how precise the build quality is, lift the bonnet and look at where the parts come from, made in Australia, Germany or Japan. No South Korean low cost parts go onto the Fords. Why do people pay the same money to buy a 4 Cyl European Corolla like 3 series bmws? Fuel 10.2 L/ 100 Klm av for the 6 cyl, and they say large cars are finished.

I’m hoping when orion is launched that panel gap quality and overall build quality will take a big step forward, much like the VEs new body.
judging by these spy pics and what you ‘can’ see along the door body sides, the panel gaps and consitencey seem to be much better already;)
maybe my imagination, but i hope so.

Adam You should go visit Ford , Holden and the great immpeccable toyota and see what the tolerances are like on real cars built recently I think you will find the ford leaves both comm and camaurions for dead in this department. Unfortunatly most people belive what they hear and not what they can see. I was just looking at the drive site and it has link to “What car should I buy” aside from 85% of the photos depicting a Toyota in a Prominant position, the articals are stronly toyota biased, even reviews not about the toyotas mention them. most of there stories have toyota mentioned in the first and last paragraph. The conclusions for most suggest a toyota as the recommended choice. What sort of a lame tool would actually belive this crap? Don’t people drive cars before they buy them? Toyota is the greatest marketing company in the world and they make a good average car. If you have no ability to sustain an erection or build model railways buy one. BF2 is very sharp and the quality and durability is so far above toyota and holden it is proof that the media is bias, when this fact doesn’t get highlighted. maybe ford should spend more on advertising and put out more extented loan cars. so we dont read reviews based on ba facts. Fords rule Holdens are ok but toyota really sucks as a car to drive ( they creak when you go around corners for christ sakes, a falc might do that after 160000Km and a comm after 45000km (VZs did, VE? dunno myself) they pull under brakes, they have no torque, they have crap seating , crap visibility and rubbish tyres. I hope you can go and look at some cars Adam Bf2 will impress you and when orion comes i expect you will be pleased.

    ford fan…

I know what they are all like, i work in the motor trade…;))
To me the VE made a significant leap for build quality over VZ and from what i see everyday the BF needs to make a leap like VE. In the end all local cars are very similar when it comes to build quality.

its funny, i had a quick look over on drive, they have a video there, that toby guy goes, here is an exlcusive first look at the new falcon ute, i pissed my self laughing, the reason for that it, this great website has photos of the falcon ute and its interior couple of months ago.

Keep up the great work car advice, your coverage of the new falcon is great.

  11. Alex Says:

Great coverage of the new Falcon guys. As the owner of a BF XR6 Turbo and a recent hirer of a current Statesman, I can say one thing, the quality of the Statesman is only marginally better than the current Falcon and there are areas on the Statesman that the Ford is head and shoulders above. The Statesman I hired only had 20,000 k’s on the clock and it was really looking its age. The cover around the transmission selector was already bubbling, there was a loud rattling noise from the left hand rear, the buttons controlling the Traction/Parking control/Transmission felt incredible cheap and were sticking and the engine sounded thrashy. Now don’t get me wrong, I understand completely that hire cars are treated fairly badly during their life, but believe me, my car hasn’t exactly had the easiest life either and it seems to be holding together much better. However, it doesn’t matter if you’re a Ford or Holden lover, there’s one thing we would all have to agree on, we get some of the best priced performance vehicles in the world and that’s something we can all be happy with.

  12. Andrew. M Says:

yeah i agree with “ford fan”
it is unfair to say the flushness of the falcon is worse than others.
    it is definately no worse!!!!!
a great example on the camrys (previous gen) is the rear tail lights. one side sticks out further than the other by like 10mm (forget which side it is)
and the commy, well i always thought the falcon was finished better than those.
totally agree on crap seating on the others too.

  15. Oz. Says:

The BFII Fairmont Ghia looks really flash already. Just add xenon headlights, side flashers on the mirrors and L.E.D taillights on the Orion Ghia and it’ll look even better!
