Fiat 500 open top ready for 2010

By Matt Brogan |

Fiat has today announced more details of its open top 500C, due to arrive in Australia mid next year.

Paying homage to the original 1957 open top 500, the new 500C offers that same fun feel coupled with a unique blend of innovative modern technical solutions to provide safety, economy and low emissions.

The four-seater aims to re-interpret the original design but will utilise an electric operated roof with glass rear window for practicality and ease of use.

The top will be available in three colours (ivory, red and black) to match with the various paint finishes on offer – three of which will be unique to the 500C model (Ragamuffin Red, Tech House Grey and Goth-Metal Blue).

The Fiat 500C retains the same dimensions as the base model Fiat 500 and shares all three of its power units: the 55kW 1.3-litre MultiJet turbo-diesel engine combined with a five-speed manual gearbox and the 51kW 1.2-litre and 74kW 1.4-litre petrol engines, both available with manual or Dualogic robotised gearbox.

More details of the versions to be sold in Australia, along with their prices and specifications, will be announced when the Fiat 500C arrives in Australia in mid next year.

not to sure about the rear wheels and front wheel designs being slightly different, although it could just be an illusion..

and the diesel figures for a 1.3L, 55kw? thats like whoa!

  • Howie-R31

throw in the girl on the left and I’ll take one thanks!

    ^^^^^^Howie-R31

Was thinking the exact same thing, but i am not so fussy, i will take both!

I love this type of roof, simple, quick and cheap.I had the same roof in my FSM 126 Niki, use to be able to transport tall trees home while others in their large SUV’s could NOT….lol

*Should* be priced around Citroen C3 Pluriel money, ie <$30k driveaway.

Any news [story] on the genuis high-tech MultiAir engine?

    Cheers

FrugalOne, you are right, it will be pricy. But then, I’m sure it will be considerably less flawed than the Pluriel.
I love the 500 and I firmly believe that it’s OK for a a guy to have one, but this really is one for the girls. Lucky them.
