Police Officer Fined For Speeding Over 200KM/HR

By Alborz Fallah |

Its not often that I feel sorry for a police officer, but I actually feel sorry for Andrew Robert Cumming who is a highway patrol officer attached to Operation Seta, which was formed in response to the Cronulla riots.

Officer Roberts took his Holden Commodore to speeds of about 230km/240km hr on the F6 Freeway near Bulli simply to demonstrate its capability to the other officers in the vehicle.

Isn’t it bad when your own work colleagues dub you in? It was in his case! He has lost his license till end of this year and fined $1,600 for his speeding infringements.  His own barrister Les Nicholls described his act as

“the most irresponsible and recklessly stupid act”

What can you say to that?  At least he’s not a teenager, otherwise it would be all over the news!

A trained Police Officer’s 240kph is probably a lot safer than a baseball capped P-plater in a VL doing 120kph!

Were you being sarcastic?! Because you’re missing the correct punctuation if you are…

It’s about time there was some justice! No doubt an internal investigation on the fuzz would reveal all sorts of illegalities since most of these clowns think they’re ‘above-the-law’.

If he wants to prove that he has big bollocks, perhaps he should be an exhibit at the Ekka? In the meantime, I agree with his lawyer. Very irresponsible.

In a way I actually almost agree MisterTwo,
I think driver training really does increase driver skill!

Perhaps if I may take your point and flip it around, and say, lets give all “capped” p platers the same course that police officers undergo for their driver education!

Wouldn’t that be the ideal world? Or are we still stuck on the problem that Knowledge is power and hence we tend not to pass it out all to often?

In Victoria, if you wipe off 5 you stay alive, which I thought was really generous of the Government. I mean it could have been wipe of 50 and I’d still be on my way to work.

They never told us that you can actually add on 120 and still live.

All this time we have been led to believe that something really bad happens.

Mr Plod has been to the ‘other side’ and returned unscathed. He should be quarantined and studied so that we can learn more and one-day maybe our children will be able to learn similar skills. Their world could be that little bit safer provided we dont run out of water and all die of thirst first.

I knew Andrew Cummings when he was a Security Guard. He was weak willed and lacked courage. He used to hang out in the local service station in his security uniform as he thought it made him look cool.
His insecurities channelled him towards a job where he could act tough and bignote himself-Highway Patrol

I dont feel sorry for him as his actions were beyond foolish. Im sure he was attempting to impress the other occupants of the vehicle.
Obviously it did not work. I was told they repeatedly requested him to slow down, and were ignored.
I dont care how well trained a person is, 230kmh on a public road there is no room for error.
He put himself and his passengers at risk, as well as the other road users in his vicinity (whom he would happily book for doing the same)and deserves every penalty as an example to the rest of the force.

As for the first reply… a police officer doing 240km/h is not alot safer then a p-plater doing 140km/h. At 240km/h you travel 100m in around 2 seconds… it also takes a VERY long distance to stop (I would assume in excess of 60m). So if something up ahead was to occur, even a well trained cop would struggle to even have enough time to react let along react properly. Foolish statement.

  • Freak

well well, after all these years and he still has not grown up.
just cause your wearing a uniform, does not mean that your invincible, or sensible….
those speeds should never be done on public roads, especially by those whose job it is to enforce the speed limits.
he deserves all the loss of his licence, and fines plus more.

  • DoctorG

I too worked with this joker, along with Freak and Katana. He was a usless security guard who would jump at his own shadow and was never competent in his job. Andrew should be fined accordingly, as would any other road user. We dont need people like this on our roads, let alone looking after us and our children. Sack him and lock him up for a year or two….teach him a lesson.

The Police are not unlike the rest of society.
There are dumb hoons with an ego problem in uniform & I guess it is little wonder they find their niche behind the wheel of a large powerful V8.These people are unsafe at any speed. From 240 km/h the stopping distance hard to estimate.
1 second perception time at best.Reaction time another second or two,by this time the car at this speed has travelled at least 100 meters. He is as good as dead.
The car he is driving is not engineered to effectively cope with a panic stop at 240km/h.It is an ordinary sedan.
The dick at the wheel does not consider these issues. No end of driver education & training will make any difference to guys like this.It is wasted on them, they use the ‘advanced driver training’ just to feed their ego further.

If the opportunity presents itself, police officers can be the biggest hoons on the road. Why do State Governments supply their police force with such powerful cars eg 6.0 litre V8s or Hi-Performance Turbos (Ford Typhoons)?
The uniform doesn’t magically make officers impervious to accidents or perfect drivers.
