Just got back from the MMS and after seeing the FG Falcon in the flesh I was even more dissapointed. Looks even less new in profile apart from G3 front end however the Holden stand was abuzz with people 4 rows in depth to see the coupe 60 and there were lines o people wanting to sit in the Sportwagon ss v unlocked. Got plenty of photos and Vids of what was worth it like the Nissan GTR, Holden coupe,Landrover concept etc but afraid Falcon was not even worth a waste of bytes on my memory card. The Aussie netball team girls signing Coupe 60 posters were though. lol

FROSTY -
Says it all, nobody is hardly interested in the *new* Foulcan, yet 4-deep over at camp-red….
Even the ex CEO/boss of Ford departed before it was released, says it all.
Ford have totally screwed up!
I now want to be first and patent the next update Falcon prefix as in the last one.The irony is that it will be called “FE”……All the world over FE = Final-Edition!
Holden have stolen Ford’s thunder, not that it was much thunder anyway
Cheers

Holden is in panic mode now especially when ford is bringing out the new GTHO. Theres been lots of advertisement with the new FG Falcon and of course the $750,000 dollar XYGTHO Phase III. After all these 38 years people still talk about it. 427 against a new GTHO will be no match. XYGTHO killed every other production car in the world back in 70s and Ford will do it again with the new GTHO. Cant wait for the GTHO as for holden they wont have a match and this will be there last by GM cause they gonna have to start puttin more imported crud in there cars. Ford is a ford but a holden is not a holden anymore. Ford falcon GTHO will always rule cause its the best car in this country.

Must have taken holden some serious time thinking about what they were going to make…imagine all the brain power needed..”Hey guys how about we make a two door Commodore and this time call it a Monar…..i mean coupe”
Lame - try something new…
New Falcons looks sweet as!

Here comes those jealous Ford twits again. Well regardless what Holdens designers deside always have winner showing. I would be deciding which company wins by 1. Crowd numbers 2. WOW factor and 3. The ammount of people ordering their cars. I for one ordered calais V sportwagon yesterday without hesitating at the show, the clincher ordering it and paying a deposit was the extended warranty being given for no cost to those wanting to buy a car.
Come and join team red. You wont be dissapointed unlike the the pain team blue hands out.

I laugh when people say the Ford Falcon has not changed enough…
1. VE look at grille middle upright that goes back ages ago
2. Lights similar to Falcon
3. Old pushrod motors
(Report)
March 2nd, 2008 at 9:21 am
FROSTY…the Sportswagon is stunning hey. Nice rump on it! Like I dont mind the VE but the new Falcon I like more. I would say with the Holden Commodore clones…different headlights and rear tailights as it is same same - and by that I dont mean different background in standard shaped lights or different lense treatment! At least the Falcon finally has model differentiation better then VE.

Holden have 3 points of genuine interest on their stand, if you include the HSV. One of them, the Coupe60, is a Show Stopper, BK and XRTurbo. Geddit? That’s right, a S-H-O-W-S-T-O-P-P-E-R…whether you like it or not.
And you clearly don’t. In fact, you’re hating every minute of it.

Frugal one ….are you a total idiot? The Ford stand was packed………..they were lined up 5 or 6 deep to sit in the new Falcon. The Falcon looks very smooth and integrated design not like the BA front ended Commode…..I know you dont want to hear it but the Billion dollar Commode looks old and outdated already !! Go sit in the Falcon and see the great interior design then look at VE and its cheap plastic dash……and Ford didnt need half naked girls to attract a crowd. And how ugly is that 2 door Commode? Just wait until FPV release their power figures ..Holden will shit themselves !!!!!!

WEll Frosty as the saying goes……..just keep putting bigger and bigger engines in an ugly car and watch the bogans flock to the Holden stand !!!!! I am glad you didnt take a photo of the great new falcon because Ford wouldnt want their car on a dickheads camera…..
Knowing Holden and thier bullshit it probably didnt even have a 7 litre in it……anyway 370kw isnt that good from 7 litres……there are XR6 Turbos around with more than that …..

March 2nd, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Frosty, are you some idiot sent from Holden’s payroll to try and defame the new Falcon and try to kill Ford? It really looks like you and the “Freckle-One” sh!thead are.
You take a long absence from positing on this site, then months latter your biased Holdenwoo loving appear again on the day of Falcon’s unveiling to put Ford down…..Why don’t you go back to Holden and improve those fr!gg!n’ ugly dunnydore’s that look like crap?????
(I apologise to the sensible Holden fans, “Frosty” ain’t one of them)
Really, you saying you don’t like the look of the new Falcon because you biased against Ford, I used to think the VE was ugly, but I learnt there’s more to it then just Ford in my life. So the same goes with you “Frosty” learn to respect Ford or go back to the Holden factory….

I agree Rick Harris, what’s next. An 8.0L with 380kW? A 9.0L with 390kW. At least Ford know how to tune their V8s, not go bigger to get more KW

Cant wait till GTHO comes out and pisses all over holden 427. Fords 6cylinder Typhoon made a fool out of holdens 6 litre engines. Ford are gonna go insane with there V8s and shit all over GMs biggest V8 engines. When will holden ever learn.

OZ…yes i agree there is more to just Ford in my life too….BMW, JAGUAR, Volvo, Astin Martin, Mazda are also favorites of mine, and even some Holdens….XUI VE SS is ok except for the interior now I have seen the FG interior and those god damn oversized wheel arches. Holden have gone the American “looks like a stuck on bodykit” way of styling while Ford have taken the more coherent flowing style of the European Fords…….Guys like Frosty and Frugal one would have stayed in the Holden area all day because they have a closed mind.

I agree with the Holden fan that gives the prize to the one who sells the most cars. Go Toyota.
Holden was so busy fighting for that Toyota sneeked past them and now does almost more sales than Ford and Holden combined, yet Holden still place all of their effort on trying to out manouver Ford.
Maybe they’ve given up on first place and are desperate to at least hold on to second place. Loosers

look at you lot! Your all bloody idiots! It seems if your a ford fan you can’t accept when holden does something good, and if your a holden fan you can’t accept when ford does something good!
I’m sorry to tell you this, but anyone who have such extreem attitudes against holden or ford, i’m sorry but your not real car enthousiasts, your just stupid fanboys running around with completely irrational and cliche’d and often hypocritical arguments that only really serve to make you look like complete wankers
Fact of the matter is, the coupe 60 looked great, the HSV mechanically sounds awesome, front end styling a bit iffy however, and the new falcon range is clearly a great range of motor cars, although by no means diffinitively better then holdens offering. For mine, they look like pretty line ball now the commodore and the falcon and which one you buy will ultimately come down to personal preference as i severely doubt one will be any more remarkable then the other.
oh and the whole “holden are gonna shit when fpv release their power figures” crap, mate if they where going to be so fantastic fpv would have released them already. According to both wheels and motor the power figures will be around the 315kw which is hardly that dominant over the HSV’s 307kw (wow 8kw…)

Well Ive just read that BMW are looking at supplying GM engines to compete against Ford.
From Auto Blog”" Word out of Frankfurt from the Financial Times Deutschland is that BMW is in talks to sell engines and transmissions to both General Motors and Fiat. All three companies have declined to officially comment.
The news is interesting, but not surprising. You may recall that GM has been selling transmissions to BMW for well over a decade for use in various 3 Series and 5 Series models (the current BMW 328i automatic uses a 6-speed GM 6L45 unit). So far, however, all have been automatic transmissions.
Speculating about the details, our tipster suggests that BMW may be helping GM with their SMG-style transmission program. As for the engines? It is possible that BMW could be selling its 4.4L V8 for the Cadillac line or lending GM a twin-turbo to compete with Ford’s twin-turbo direct-injected V6″”end quote
Sounds like that could be interesting……never knew GM supplied BMW!

what you lot seem to miss is how bloody lucky we aussies are! We are truly spoiled for choice, in HSV and FPV we have the finest range of muscle cars in the world and at dead set bargain prices when compared to the euro fighters which cost hundreds of thousands of dollars more but are no where near hundreds of thousands of dollars better, better no doubt, but not all that much better.
The aussie car industry is a great industry and something we should be proud of but unfortunately you lot and your extreem attitudes take the aussie car industry back to the bad old days when aussie cars rated right up there with american cars as complete rubbish, albeit tough and reliable rubbish. Ofcourse we had great moments in our past such as the GT falcons and the hot torana’s, but the fact of the matter is we produced alot of crap and its only now since probably the BA falcon and VY commodore that we have started producing some seriously world class cars in australia and we should be bloody proud of that and not get soo bloody side tracked trying to slag off the other side which frankly you only do that because your daddy taught you too

BM - i knew about the auto’s going into the 5 series, its actually the same unit as found in V8 commodores, and will go into the high output V6 commodores at the next update, with the current 5 speed going into the low output V6’s. The update will include direct injection on both high and low output versions of the alloytec which is a very welcome advancement because if there is one area holden is most definetly behind ford it is in the 6 cylinder drivetrain area
(Report)
March 2nd, 2008 at 9:08 pm
also i had a feeling GM where going to do something with cadillac’s V8’s, because they had to cancel their plans to produce the northstar II V8 engine which was being designed to compete with the best of german V8’s with DOHC and direct injection, so they needed a replacement of some kind and i guess with BMW they found a logical solution.
They had to cancel the northstar II engine because of stupid new US laws requiring fleet fuel economy averages to be something unrealistic like 7.0l per 100km’s

Oz - Alan Watson’s comment is all true.
Not an extremist just someone with his head screwed ‘on’ not ‘off’ like most wacky Holden/Ford clowns.
Bavarian - refer Wheels March 2008 page 28 …. it also appears that BMW and Mercedes are joining forces to combat the Japanese invasion.
quote … ” As unlikely as it may seem, Mercedes-Benz and BMW are about to move much closer together. The Teutonic arch-rivals are both nervously eyeing the rapid expansion of Lexus into Europe (backed by the all-conquering Toyota), while the success od Audi(backed by the might of the VE group) is not slipping past unnoticed either. The pressure is mounting” … unquote
gee - seems the mighty force of Toyota is on every manufactuers radar.

I can remember seeing that article on Auto blog not sure if they decided to go ahead though….it does make sense to share costs though. No matter what the reason,it good business sense.I mean Peugeot were building engines for BMW
Minis for a while……

MMM,thats weird then.Auto Blog reported they had.Take a squizz …………who knows?
“BMW has said “non, merci” to continuing its diesel engine partnership with PSA Peugeot Citroen. The two automakers began working together two years ago to create 1.4- and 1.6-liter gasoline engines for BMW’s MINI and PSA cars. Despite both companies at the end of last year looking at expanding their joint research into a high-tech engine, the synergies weren’t providing the cost benefits desired with the small engine, so the affair has come to an end.
(Report)
March 3rd, 2008 at 4:33 pm
yeah thats for their DIESEL engine, they still have the 1.6ltr PETROL engine as fitted to the mini.
And anyway even though now the joint venture is over, they are still obviously going to keep using the engine they have already designed, no point discontinuing a perfectly good engine. All this means is that they will not make any more joint venture engines in the future
(Report)
March 3rd, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Arrrrrr,realy.OK
But yep I agree with keeping the engine, bit of a waste other wise.
I don’t think they will ever discount not using another supplier…….times are changing that way with manufacturing costs it seems.

March 3rd, 2008 at 7:06 pm
its just like how when alfa romeo needed to replace their simply brilliant 3.2ltr V6 due to tigher emmissions laws which they simply could not meet so rather then going through the expensive excercise of designing an all new engine they simply took the 3.2ltr version of the alloytec and reworked it’s heads so that it still made that awesome alfa romeo V6 engine note. It’s way more cost effective to do that then do all the work yourselfs, why develop your own bottom end when GM has done a perfectly good job
