Melbourne Motor Show: FPV stand

February 29, 2008 by Matt Brogan

Ford’s new FG series has not gone unrewarded by the FPV treatment with GT and F6 models among the highlights on display at the FPV stand.

Although the bonnet release mechanisms have been removed from the vehicles (possibly to protect the still unreleased kilowatt ratings), the FPV range certainly looks the goods both inside and out. The crew at CarAdvice are gagging to get behind the wheel for a road test, hopefully very soon.

    SPEED FREAK,
On the left side of your keyboard there’s a button between “Tab” and “Shift” just press it once.

  2. Bavarian Missile says:

Yeah I thought that myself Andrew, then I realised we don’t have a dash shot of the GT do we? I guess I was thinking it may have been a boost gauge for a supercharger at first..wishful thinking?

I had thought about the numbers not being allocated yet,but wondered where will they put it! Bloody cup holders, dumb place for them, pain in the a r s e to change gears when you have a drink there!

Yep the red button is starter OZ,thought it may have been stop start but nope!

  3. Alec says:

Purely Speculation, but…. maybe there is a supercharger under the bonnet, it would make sense, it is a proven upgrade and easily the best way to get more power out of the 5.4. If I was Ford I would have minimal boost, about 340kw and a big smile on my face. It would be a good way for the Boss 5.4 to spend its last 2 years in OZ!!
…….because anything less than 320kw just wont cut it now that Ford now has 270 & 290 kw in its XR’s

  4. Alec says:

Anyone else notice that the FPV cars still had a FORD badge on the steering wheel, yet the rest of the car was badged as an FPV???!!!
New Steering wheel in the pipeline maybe???

  5. Andrew M says:

    Alec,
speculation i know but thats exactlly what i would do if i was CEO of ford for a day.
they are letting the turbo6’s drown what should be the “hero” car the GT and GTP.
ive thought for a while now that the GTP ahould get a mild supercharger treatment over its lower spec’d GT.
i mean who wants to buy the top of the line and only get a premium stereo as a benefit? (exaggeration i know)

also now with holden playing the “just up the cubes” game there is no better time for ford to throw the different option of a mildly boosted more refined V8 option.
i mean ever since they brought out the I6T it was made very clear that the falcon 6cyl is a far superior motor and by far the preferred motor to enthusiests over the commy 6cyl
plus the name “supercharged v8″ sounds so more attractive than 8.0L V8 doesnt it.

God, I can’t wait to see it!

  7. Alec says:

    Andrew,
    We have same thinking..
I also thought(hoping) that FPV would have looked at a final limited run of Supercharged BF’s that could have been a Phase 5 GTHO.. Why not. Even if they lost money on each car, the boost in brand image would be imeasurable

  8. SHAME says:

I spoke in great depth with the FPV boys at the motorshow.

    1) The side indicators will be removed to make way for FPV badging. Aparently this was not ready in time before the motorshow.

    2) The gauges are now located on the dashboard (boost, etc)

    3) GT is supposed to have a throatier note with the new exhaust which has a valve that opens and shuts depending on the acceleration of the car.

    4) Last of all and please don’t quote me, but I got the impression that the GT has twin throttle bodies

The only problem I have now is which one I am going to buy, the GT or the F6! The FPV rep stated that I would be suprised with the output of the F6, both KW’s and NM!

  9. Oz. says:

I’ll get Back to the exhaust I was on about a while ago….
It’s good to hear FPV are going to have some kind of valve that opens for a note at hight acceleration but it also needs a throaty throb at an idle and low acceleration(2000rpm) too. So It needs a good idle sound. And I do hope it does have a good throb sound at low revs along with a HUGE RAW when you put your foot down. :)

I feel a little extra exited after that!

I or at least my company have had 1 BA GT, 2 BA Typhoons 013 and 333 and now have 2 BF R Spec Typhoons 279 and 284. Looking at these pictures they will be the last ones we buy. The real Ford Falcon is dead, long live the real Ford Falcon

  11. BK says:

Typhoon should be pumpin out 580nm of torque which is not that far behind the 427. New GTHO wont have a problem in going way beyond wat the 427 does. GTHO wins again here ladies.

  12. Oz. says:

Has anyone noticed in the picture of the GT’s rear wheel in the 4th pic in the gallery and the 10th picture in the gallery of the F6’s rear wheel the GT has Brembos while the F6 doesn’t?

  13. F6TYPHOON says:

If the XR8 is coming out 290kw wouldn’t the GT come out 320KW to maintain the 30kw difference between the XR and GT power range ?

Also wouldn’t the F6TYPHOON come out with 305KW to also maintain its 30KW advantage over the XR6T ?

    Just my thoughts

    Drew

  14. Duck says:

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbzzzzzzztttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!! WRONG!

The FPV f6 Typhoon will have 300kw while the GT will have 315kw.

    GO HSV!!!!!!

  15. Watto_Cobra says:

Looks like you were wrong about the F6 310 Duck, but so were wheels when they said Gt will be 320kw.
