Melbourne Motor Show: FPV stand

By Matt Brogan |

Ford’s new FG series has not gone unrewarded by the FPV treatment with GT and F6 models among the highlights on display at the FPV stand.

Melbourne Motor Show: FPV Gallery

Although the bonnet release mechanisms have been removed from the vehicles (possibly to protect the still unreleased kilowatt ratings), the FPV range certainly looks the goods both inside and out. The crew at CarAdvice are gagging to get behind the wheel for a road test, hopefully very soon.

  • Oz.

Why don’t FPV use a similar style on the rear bumperbar above the exhausts like the current GT? It’ll look more decorated.

P.S. Freckle One, make sure you clean your self up before commenting.

  • Chopstar87

Would be new i would think…. all the public wants to know is the Power of these beautifuls things??? Typhoon to do subs 5s would be good…. i think ford need to built a concept soon with V10 in the thing or something like the GR1( this was by Ford USA ) from a couple of years ago…. ford Australia needs to do this for once…..

  • Oz.

    *****NON-PRIMO!*****!

It’s funny how they removed the bonnet lock mechanisms.

New GT-HO with a V10? sounds good to me. :)

    Cheers

    Oz.

    LOL.

  • Brooke

They could have done a little more with the dash. And what’s with the tail lights positioned similarly to the new holden? Could have been done a whole heap better. Let’s just pray it’s got a shit load of power.

  • Bavarian Missile

Yeah Matt hopefully real soon babe…Your doing a great job at the show, thanks for all the pics and stories today!

  • Richo

this may be a controversial statement i know.. but i really honestly think that it would look a whole lot better if the try hard stickers all over the side of it and particularly on the bonnet make the car looks rubbish.. get rid of that and it’ll look a whole lot better!

Interior is pretty good i think, can’t wait too hear what power it has, funny thing is though ford is obsessed with quoting its Kw’s in DIN form, which is different to what every other manufacturer does so the last alleged 290kw V8 GT actually had around 281kw if you measured it in the same way that holden and everyone else measures their power… a bit cheeky by ford i think and i reckon they need to stop doing that

  • Richo

oh and it’ll need to have good power too because HSV will be switching to the 6.2ltr LS3 V8 next year which will have 325kw, so i reckon the FPV V8′s will need to have ATLEAST 315kw or preferably 325kw to counter that

  • Richo

just noticed that the F6 doesn’t have all the stripes, and notice how much better it looks! this is what i’m talkin about… an FPV F6 or a HSV Clubsport R8…. man i’m glad i dont have 70k because i wouldn’t be able to decide! lol

  • Oz.

When we drive these hot new beasts for the first time when comparing them to the current BF 302kW & 270kW. We need to feel a whole world of performance differences! I mean race a BF FPV around the track, then get into an FG FPV, put your foot on the pedal to the floor and think you entered a rocket ship that sticks to the ground and pulls up quick!

  • Oz.

I kind of agree with you Richo.

  • SRTargets

you know after seeing the G6E interoir and centre console. The FPVs just dont do it for me. If this is the case just get rid of the interior and make a limited edition drift6 with 360kw, weighs 1500kg and does 11s stock.

  • ChopstaR87

    Sounds good to me SRTargets…..

one thing about the FPV interior is the lack of the gauges???? where are they??? were will they go??? maybe it not the real FPV interior????

ford needs to build a hard top falcon with the F6 engine!!!! now!!!! i hate that holden gets all these concepts and and cars with the big yank engines in them and we dont… either beef up a F6 engine or something….. please… or built the romoured Australia Mustang with a turbo 6 under the bonnet… Please something…..

  • Realcars

The mighty GT is back better than ever!!!!

These beautiful photos bring a tear to an old falcon lovers eye!

Run to the hills vanquished Aurion TURDS!!!

  • Oz.

    ^
Yep, the return of the Falcon hardtop would be good.

  • Oz.

Realcars, your right. better than…you know what!

  • SPEED FREAK

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL FORD AND FPV TO STOP SKIMPING OF PAINT, I THINK THEY FORGOT TO PAINT THE FRONT OF SOME OF THERE CARS, IE: GT ETC…..

  • Realcars

    obviously not a falcon purist.

the front bumper treatment is a representation of the mighty falcon motif!!! I reckon it looks cool.

  • Realcars

it says get outa my way I’m coming thru!!!!

  • Realcars

They should have had a GTHO and a new FPV in similar livery.

I seen a photo on Uniquecarsales of a white BF GT with gold stripes next to an immaculate Diamond white XY GT with Gold stripes and it was indeed a sight to behold!

  • Rick Harris

Richo…for your information DIN is the way Ford measure their power. I worked in the dyno room for 6 years at Ford. A “B” power curve would be run first, which is no exhaust back pressure and no calculations taken for the alternator and pulleys etc…….. SO THE POWER AT THE FLYWHEEL IS HIGHER THAN A “DIN” POWER CURVE. To cheat a company would release this figure because it is higher but not as it would be in the car. With a “Din” curve it is run with exhaust back presure and other calculations taken out as i meantioned before. So Ford release the Din figures which is the realistic one…….

  • Realcars

    Appreciate the explanation.

What does the DIN acronym stand for?

So the DIN figure is actually pessimistic compared to the others.

  • No Name

Deutsches Institut für Normung eV (German Institute for Standardization; similar to US ANSI)

  • http://ford Nick

The GT does not do it for me. The BF GTs look amazing. I think they have gone backwards, aesthetically.

  • Realcars

Fair enough. As long as we are all gunning for the same team.

The white BF gt with the gold stripes looks awesome especially next to an XY Gt in the same colours.

  • Richo

Rick Harris, all i know is that both motor and wheels have stated on many occasions that Ford and FPV use a kw measurement that produces a higher kw rating then the measurement that holden, HSV and basically every other manufacturer uses. If the boss 290kw motor in the FPV was measured in the same way that holden measure’s their motors, it would only produce 281kw

  • Devil Racer

In my opinion, i think that FPV were a little rushed in prepping their new falcons for the motor show. For example, the GT and the F6 as pictured on this page has both the side indicators (seen on the XT) as well as the wing mirror indicators like the G6s, seems odd. and you would think that the wheel rim designs would be changed for the new model.

ALso ChopstaR87, i agree with you that the interior may not be the actual FPV interior as the steering wheel isnt even a sports style steering wheel as it seems rather plain compared to the xr6 turbo’s steering wheel seen in the official pics from ford. and to answer your other question, it seems like the gauges have been moved to the instrument cluster on the dash. you can see that the speedo and tacho on the FPV also features the boost guage and the oil pressure gauge distinct from other fords.

I’m guessing there will be some minor changes made..possibly after initial public feedback from the motorshow too given that the official launch is in late march/april and it will go on sale only in may.

From the info given by ford and what has been seen though, the FG falcon looks like its going to be an awesome car to drive. The engineering advancements on the chassis, the new equipment on board ( ie monotube shocks and virtual pivot suspension) and the work done to the engines, especially the outgoing I6 is remarkable.

  • Rick Harris

Richo……….well fact is fact mate……..Ford publish the DIN figure which is the realistic figure. As i said before they use the “B” curve which has a higher figure but use the “din” curve as the release figure. Wheels and Motor are wrong. And who would believe the figures Holden put out?

  • Bavarian Missile

Hey Richo do you know someone recently engine dynoed the Cobra so called 302 kw! Results were 313 kws. The 302 was purely marketing.

  • Bavarian Missile

Happy Birthday Matt Brogan. We all thank you you for the effort you have put in at the Melbourne Car Show ,providing us the latest pics and info. Hope you have a great day babe
    take it easy .

    Luvya xoxoxoxo

  • Oz.

FPV should give it (GT) a better V8 note out the exhaust. I know there’s a limit of how loud they can be, I don’t know if the 302 has a improved note, but 290 has no sound at all. hopefully they give this new model a bit of “old school” throb out the back.

  • Lcat

    ^^ Well said BM

  • Andrew M

    OZ,
mate ford say they have designed an exhaust that does give a better note under hard acceleration.

    Richo,
well what does “motor” and “wheels” say the typhoon has?
    260kw?
if so then how come the “260kw” F6 can keep with the “307kw” GTS?

  • TP

An FPV doenst even have duel exhausts? There are things I like about the new FPVs; interior is simple but good looking (although opposite of push start looks a tad unfinished, with a space for another button), front if awesome, engine will no doubt be good…. but there are major disappointments, mainly the lack of duel exhuast which family cars have these and are essential, lack of projector headlamps or xenons and lack of LEDs in tail lights. Some may say minor things, but they are finishing touchess the FPVs lack… but HSVs dont.

  • http://- Matthew

Bavarian Missile, this is purly a comments section. Your comments are like this is an actual forum. You must be one of these housewifes who have nothing to do as it seems all you do is post on this site. Get yourself a job!

  • Oz.

Matthew, then why don’t you just leave this site if you can’t take other readers. I don’t know which Matthew you are, but they both got pounded..

  • Wheelnut

FYI Matthew; Bavarian Missile is actually the director of a very successful Toy Company which sells top quality [niche] products.

Regardless of that it actually takes a fair bit of brains etc to run and maintain a Household. I mean you get these Harvard educated CEOs on salary packages over $250K yet I doubt that they would be able to mnage a budget inorder to feed and clothe an average family..etc.

Housewives contribute more towards the economy than most people think and way more than the afforementioned CEOs who pretty much just sit on their arses all day going to pointless meeyings/lunches and making half arsed decisions which will effect everyones life except theirs.

  • Bavarian Missile

Ummmmm Matthew I guess as you don’t run the site or know the guys that do then……..cause they have no problem with ME but they may you!

Matt Brogan is one of the writers for CA……in case you haven’t realised and where good mates and mates wish each other Happy Birthday……..I thought others that don’t chat privately to Matt would also like to wish him the best today along with congratulating him on doing such a good job all week .

    Matthew Im a company director…..so I guess that’s a job!

You have a problem with ME……..or is it all intelligent women!

hahaha OZ……you start and Ill finish him off!

Hey OZ you see that the new GT is red-lined to 6500…looks like FPV were listening and put better rods and pistons in it!yaaaa

  • Bavarian Missile

ahhhh,my knight in shinning armour….thanks babe looks like we were “DOING” the same thing at the same time,as usual!

  • Wheelnut

Matthew – from what i can gather you have exceeded your limit of 3 comments for the year not only on this blog but the ones anout the Coupe 60 / W427..

Therefore; isnt it time that you sod off until sod off

  • Andrew M

    TP,
the FPV’s do have duel pipes……….

  • Bavarian Missile

See you shouldn’t talk on the phone and blog at the same time Wheelnut…did I distract your concentration?

Andrew yeah the GT does but not the F6…….

  • Oz.

TP, what did you mean by “An FPV doenst even have duel exhausts?”? you can see that the GT has,but not F6.

  • TP

Yes but not all… all FPVs should have that as standard kit, family cars do these days.

  • Bavarian Missile

Yep but as its a six its only going to be an extension like other “family cars” So its more than likely just going to be
for looks than function. Maybe it breaths well enough with single…….

  • Wheelnut

I know BM.. it’s just you have that kind of effect on me..

  • Bavarian Missile

Hey I wonder if Wheels and Motor will like the new starter button?

What is the gauge second from the left on the instrument panel?

And can anyone see if they have numbered them ?

  • Oz.

Where is the starter button? Is it the red thing down below?

  • Andrew M

i think it may be a boost gauge for the turbo??

i doubt these would be numbered as they are pretty much prototypes.

numbers wouldnt go on until the production starts i assume

  • Andrew M

interesting how the starter button recess is also on the LHS………..

  • Oz.

BM, I can see On the instrument panel picture the small gauges are temp, turbo, oil & fuel.

  • Oz.

    SPEED FREAK,
On the left side of your keyboard there’s a button between “Tab” and “Shift” just press it once.

  • Bavarian Missile

Yeah I thought that myself Andrew, then I realised we don’t have a dash shot of the GT do we? I guess I was thinking it may have been a boost gauge for a supercharger at first..wishful thinking?

I had thought about the numbers not being allocated yet,but wondered where will they put it! Bloody cup holders, dumb place for them, pain in the a r s e to change gears when you have a drink there!

Yep the red button is starter OZ,thought it may have been stop start but nope!

  • Alec

Purely Speculation, but…. maybe there is a supercharger under the bonnet, it would make sense, it is a proven upgrade and easily the best way to get more power out of the 5.4. If I was Ford I would have minimal boost, about 340kw and a big smile on my face. It would be a good way for the Boss 5.4 to spend its last 2 years in OZ!!
…….because anything less than 320kw just wont cut it now that Ford now has 270 & 290 kw in its XR’s

  • Alec

Anyone else notice that the FPV cars still had a FORD badge on the steering wheel, yet the rest of the car was badged as an FPV???!!!
New Steering wheel in the pipeline maybe???

  • Andrew M

    Alec,
speculation i know but thats exactlly what i would do if i was CEO of ford for a day.
they are letting the turbo6′s drown what should be the “hero” car the GT and GTP.
ive thought for a while now that the GTP ahould get a mild supercharger treatment over its lower spec’d GT.
i mean who wants to buy the top of the line and only get a premium stereo as a benefit? (exaggeration i know)

also now with holden playing the “just up the cubes” game there is no better time for ford to throw the different option of a mildly boosted more refined V8 option.
i mean ever since they brought out the I6T it was made very clear that the falcon 6cyl is a far superior motor and by far the preferred motor to enthusiests over the commy 6cyl
plus the name “supercharged v8″ sounds so more attractive than 8.0L V8 doesnt it.

  • http://none Oz.

God, I can’t wait to see it!

  • Alec

    Andrew,
    We have same thinking..
I also thought(hoping) that FPV would have looked at a final limited run of Supercharged BF’s that could have been a Phase 5 GTHO.. Why not. Even if they lost money on each car, the boost in brand image would be imeasurable

  • SHAME

I spoke in great depth with the FPV boys at the motorshow.

    1) The side indicators will be removed to make way for FPV badging. Aparently this was not ready in time before the motorshow.

    2) The gauges are now located on the dashboard (boost, etc)

    3) GT is supposed to have a throatier note with the new exhaust which has a valve that opens and shuts depending on the acceleration of the car.

    4) Last of all and please don’t quote me, but I got the impression that the GT has twin throttle bodies

The only problem I have now is which one I am going to buy, the GT or the F6! The FPV rep stated that I would be suprised with the output of the F6, both KW’s and NM!

  • http://none Oz.

I’ll get Back to the exhaust I was on about a while ago….
It’s good to hear FPV are going to have some kind of valve that opens for a note at hight acceleration but it also needs a throaty throb at an idle and low acceleration(2000rpm) too. So It needs a good idle sound. And I do hope it does have a good throb sound at low revs along with a HUGE RAW when you put your foot down. :)

I feel a little extra exited after that!

  • http://www.mindmotivations.com Rick

I or at least my company have had 1 BA GT, 2 BA Typhoons 013 and 333 and now have 2 BF R Spec Typhoons 279 and 284. Looking at these pictures they will be the last ones we buy. The real Ford Falcon is dead, long live the real Ford Falcon

  • BK

Typhoon should be pumpin out 580nm of torque which is not that far behind the 427. New GTHO wont have a problem in going way beyond wat the 427 does. GTHO wins again here ladies.

  • Oz.

Has anyone noticed in the picture of the GT’s rear wheel in the 4th pic in the gallery and the 10th picture in the gallery of the F6′s rear wheel the GT has Brembos while the F6 doesn’t?

  • F6TYPHOON

If the XR8 is coming out 290kw wouldn’t the GT come out 320KW to maintain the 30kw difference between the XR and GT power range ?

Also wouldn’t the F6TYPHOON come out with 305KW to also maintain its 30KW advantage over the XR6T ?

    Just my thoughts

    Drew

  • Duck

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbzzzzzzztttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!! WRONG!

The FPV f6 Typhoon will have 300kw while the GT will have 315kw.

    GO HSV!!!!!!

  • Watto_Cobra

Looks like you were wrong about the F6 310 Duck, but so were wheels when they said Gt will be 320kw.
