Volkswagen denies interest in buying Tesla stake

While industry rumours are often met with a dead bat, Volkswagen has issued a firm denial it's interested in purchasing a shareholding in Tesla. Sources have told Manager Magazin, Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess is interested in acquiring a stake in Tesla to access its software and battery design expertise. Although Diess is said to meet regularly with Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, the American automaker has rebuffed requests from Volkswagen for an alliance.

Volkswagen could build cars in Ford US plants

Volkswagen could build some of its vehicles at Ford factories in the USA, Herbert Diess, the German automaker's CEO, has revealed. Diess spoke to reporters including those from Automotive News after a discussion with US President Donald Trump, members of his administration, and senior officers from Daimler and BMW. Volkswagen is currently discussing a wide-ranging partnership with Ford, although it has ruled out a merger with the American car maker.

Recently-unsealed court filings are giving us a better insight into who at Volkswagen knew about what (and when they knew it) in the long-running Dieselgate emissions cheating saga. Recently unsealed documents, reported by Der Spiegel and filed by the Braunschweig prosecutor's office, say Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen Group CEO at the time, and Herbert Diess, current VW Group CEO and then-head of the Volkswagen brand, were present at a meeting about the cheating on July 27, 2015.

Volkswagen EA189 engine fix to have no effect on performance

Volkswagen says the fix to its emission cheating diesel cars should have no effect on performance, with the majority of cars expected to have nothing but a software update. Speaking to the media at today’s Tokyo motor show, Volkswagen’s CEO of passenger cars, Herbert Diess, said that his company’s aim is to maintain the same levels of performance while meeting the required emission laws that the EA189 engines cheated using defeat devices.
