Mini to tackle Dakar in rear-drive JCW Buggy

Mini has unveiled the cars it will be taking to the 2018 Dakar Rally, showcasing two very different approaches to desert-destroying performance. Along with the all-wheel drive John Cooper Works Rally, the company will be lining up with the rear-driven John Cooper Works Buggy. The company, which has a long-running partnership with X-raid, won the race overall in 2012, '13, '14 and '15, but could only manage outright sixth in the most recent running of the famous rally.

Volkswagen to exit Dakar Rally to focus on WRC: report

Volkswagen is unlikely to compete four a fourth consecutive Dakar Rally title in 2012, with the German automotive giant expected to focus its motorsport energy on its 2013 entry in the World Rally Championship. Late last week, 2011 Dakar winner Nasser Al-Attiyah told Autosport he did not expect to contest the world’s toughest race next year, with Volkswagen all but committed to exiting the event.

Volkswagen Race Touareg 3 ready for 2011 Dakar Rally

Volkswagen has unveiled the vehicle it hopes will help it achieve a three-peat of the Dakar Rally in 2011: the Race Touareg 3. Following the success of the Race Touareg 2, which won the previous two rallies and became the first diesel-powered vehicle to win the event, Volkswagen says the new desert racer will be faster and more efficient than the old model, and retain its world-beating strength and durability.
