2015 Subaru BRZ - spare tyre tip

Many brands are switching to temporary spare tyres and puncture repair kits in order to save boot space. But with Subaru and the BRZ - things are a little different... Largely identical to its Toyota 86 sports car twin, the BRZ does have a clear point of difference... and it is here, in the boot...

So what happens when the two cars you're looking at share the same engine, gearbox, platform, and damn near the same looks? What happens when the two cars you're looking at are the 2017 Subaru BRZ and 2017 Toyota 86 GT? Which do you pick then? We hit the road, and the track, to find out...

Mazda MX-5 RF v Subaru BRZ comparison

Power up front, drive to the back, a stick-shift in the middle – it’s how nature intended sports cars to be. And these two purist offerings – the 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF and the updated 2017 Subaru BRZ – are true to that formula. Both of these Japanese, sporty, fun and affordable cars may follow the same path towards inducing grins, particularly when fitted with manual gearboxes as our test cars are, but there are some fairly large differences between them...

Toyota 86 vs Subaru BRZ Comparison Review

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito were easy. But is it possible to pick the difference between another set of twins, the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ? That’s the question CarAdvice set to answer across a range of beautifully sunlit country roads. Our BRZ test car is in silver while the 86 is in red – good colours, even if we would have preferred brand-signature hues of WR Blue for the Subaru and white for the Toyota...

Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ: Second generation confirmed

A senior executive at Toyota has confirmed a next-generation version of the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ will be developed. Matt Harrison, head of marketing for Toyota Europe, has told Autocar the company is intending to develop a second-generation Toyota 86. He said it was safe to assume the next-generation sports coupe will be made in conjunction with Subaru, and use the smaller automaker's flat-four engine...

Reports of Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ's death have been greatly exaggerated

Remember those reports from earlier in the week? The ones pronouncing the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 dead, telling the world there won't be a second generation? Turns out those reports were a little premature. CarScoops, having reached out to Subaru USA, is running the following quote from a Subaru USA spokesperson: "We do not endorse this report coming from Japan’s Best Car,” he said...

Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 successor cancelled - report

Toyota might be committed to bringing the fun back into its line-up, but that's no guarantee its affordable, rear-wheel drive collaboration with Subaru will make it into a second generation. Reports from Japan have suggested Toyota and Subaru have decided to put a stop to their BRZ and 86 joint venture, with Toyota instead turning focus to the lower-end four-cylinder Supra and rumoured electric MR2...

Subaru Forester, Impreza, XV and BRZ recalled

Subaru has recalled the 2012/13 Impreza, Forester, and XV, along with the 2013 BRZ, over concerns about a defective engine valve spring. According to the company, there's a chance the valve spring will fracture, making the engine stall and not restart. If the car stalls unexpectedly and can't be restarted, there's a safety risk to the driver and other road users around them...

2017 Subaru BRZ Premium review

The purchasing decision After three years of daily driving an endearingly characterful ’14 Fiat 500 S, which both looked and drove like a scurrying field mouse, it was time for a bit of an upgrade. The brief for the replacement was fairly straightforward. Like the 500, it had to be fun to drive in the urban environment, where it would spend about 95 per cent of its life...

2017 Subaru BRZ Premium review

Hands down the most fun car I have driven for under $30K. Coming from a family of FPVs and high-horsepower V8s, I never thought I’d enjoy driving a mild 147–151kW sports coupe. How I was wrong. While you’re not gonna win any drag races, you cannot throw this car into corners without having a grin from ear to ear...

2013 Subaru BRZ S review

It has been my dream car from the day I saw it in 2012 when I was 18, to the day I bought it in 2016 when I was 22. I have tried to be as unbiased as possible, but I do apologise if I get emotion involved in this piece. The first question that would pop into your mind would be why I chose this over the GTS86 – well, I didn't...

2015 Subaru Brz Premium Review

"FUN CAR" sums up this great little runaround. Fuel economy is excellent - Still averaging 6.7 litres per 100 kms ( av. fuel usage recorder has never been reset from factory ) and better on long trips and I am not easy on the right foot. It has the auto box but always have it in sports mode. No reliability issues to date and servicing costs as per original quotation...
