Call our original small SUV comparison test the elimination round. Earlier this year when we tested this new breed of fully loaded, sub-$30,000 sub-compact ‘softroaders’, the competition was fresh but clearly green (read the full comparison here). Six months on, and the class has shifted up several gears...
A new look, lower pricing and increased equipment push the Yeti towards the top of the baby SUV pack.

Volkswagen’s German head office could be hit with an even bigger fine than the proposed $75 million penalty – already the highest of its type in Australia – for “misleading or deceptive conduct” on diesel vehicles that cheated emissions tests. However, the outcome of the hearing and the total amount of the fine may not be known for months after Justice Foster reserved his decision in the Federal Court in Sydney today...

We bought our Dec 2011 Yeti in March 2012. It has now clocked up 73,000km. Engine miss found to be caused by tired spark plugs; $200 to replace...
Having driven more performance based VW Golf GTi's over the last 10 years, I was a little hesitant to drop from my recent Golf GTi Pirelli with 169KW of power to the more sedate 77KW Skoda Yeti but I am truly astounded at how well the new Skoda Yeti 1.2Ltr Turbo petrol engine performs. It certainly won't move like the GTi but I seem to have all the comforts and familiarity of the VW Golf in my new Skoda...
