Volkswagen Jetta
Volkswagen's updated Jetta borrows wisely from its Car of the Year-winning sibling, the Golf.
It's sometimes cheekily referred to as a Golf with a boot, but Volkswagen officially calls its compact sedan the Jetta.
An all-new Jetta - which will be larger and greatly differentiated from the Golf - is due next year, but for now VW is hoping to tempt buyers into the showroom with an update of the current model.
The revamped offering is still based on the previous-generation (Mark 5) Golf, though it does gain some of the latest hatch's cabin features and most of its engines.
Most recent additions under the bonnet are a 77kW 1.6-litre diesel and 125kW 2.0-litre turbo diesel, but here we test the Jetta with the same 1.4-litre "Twincharger" petrol engine that powered Drive's 2009 Car of the Year.
(Incidentally, those curious about the styling of the 2011 Jetta should look at VW's New Compact Coupe, unveiled in Detroit last month.)
