2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 review: Quick drive
The fastest-ever Jeep is capable of acceleration that would make anything this side of a supercar take notice.
There is nothing subtle here.
That this vehicle is based on a four-wheel-drive wagon makes it all the more distinctive. Stick to the bitumen, though. In the con-version from off-roader to sports performer, the SRT8 has sacrificed such key climbing and descending abilities as low-range gearing for its 4WD system.
Instead, Chrysler Group's Street and Race Technology division has added sports suspension, 20-inch alloy wheels, Brembo brakes and an aggressive bodykit. Topping it off is a 6.1-litre version of the Hemi V8 that produces 313 kW and 569 Nm.
Fuel consumption? Officially it's 16.4 L/100 km on premium unleaded, but exploit its potential and the actual consumption is a lot more.
The SRT8 badge also adds sports front seats with suede inserts and a 276-watt sound system. Standard features are front and side airbags, ABS, stability control, rear park assist, dual-zone climate control and rain-sensing wipers.
