2006 Ford Falcon XT review: Quick drive
The Falcon has long been a favourite of caravaners.
The Falcon has long been a favourite of caravaners. Its rear-wheel-drive layout and powerful 4.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine provide the usable power drivers love when towing a load.
The Falcon also offers a full-time LPG E-Gas option.
The Falcon range, including the base-model XT, has just gone through the BF II update. While the basics remain unchanged, the excellent ZF six-speed automatic transmission is now an option throughout the range. You can pay $1500 for the transmission or $3900 for a Euro Sports Package that includes stability control, sports-tuned rear suspension and 17-inch alloy wheels and tyres. That's on top of dual airbags, ABS, air-conditioning, cruise control, single-CD player, power front windows, trip computer and powered driver's seat.
The Falcon XT auto can haul up to 2300 kg with the optional $1382-$1633 heavy-duty kit in place. The manual version has a 1200 kg maximum towing capacity.
Price: From $34,990.
