2006 Citroen C4 SX HDi review: Quick drive
While its petrol equivalent lacks performance, the C4 SX HDi's 1.6-litre, double-overhead cam, 16-valve four-cylinder turbo-diesel offers a healthy 80 kW and as much as 260 Nm.
With little evidence of turbo lag, the HDi provides an appealing combination of accessible step-off performance and economical cruising ability. The official claim is 4.7 L/100 km, and that seems to be quite achievable on the open road. The emissions claim is 125 grams/km. The engine's flexibility is good news because the C4 HDi comes with only a five-speed manual gearbox
Beyond the engine bay, this car is familiar C4. The five-door body is original and attractive, while the fixed-hub steering wheel and integrated air fragrance system are highlights.
Ride and handling are somewhat mediocre by class standards. To be made aware of so many road imperfections is something of a shock in a French car, as they traditionally have well-tuned suspensions.
The HDi has alloy wheels, stability and traction control, power windows, air-conditioning, cruise control, trip computer, rain-sensing wipers, six airbags, ABS and CD player.
