Medium SUV off-road test: Toyota RAV4, Holden Equinox, Mazda CX-5, Renault Koleos, Subaru Forester, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Volkswagen Tiguan, Honda CR-V and Nissan X-Trail

We all know your rationale when it comes to buying a medium-sized SUV with all-wheel drive. You want a vehicle with more room for the kid(s) – or kid(s) that are coming – but you also have in the back of your mind that one day you might need to go off-road. Anybody that's done any proper off-roading knows that the type of off-roading you think you're going to do, compared to the type you'll actually do, is very different...

Ten of the best and most popular mid-sized SUVs go head-to-head, but there can only be one winner.

2018 Renault Koleos v Volkswagen Tiguan comparison

As the current family favourite in Australia, medium SUVs represent the second-biggest slice of the local new car market – hot on the heels of more affordable (and often fleet-favoured) small cars. The choice of available models is broad with 19 mainstream models to pick from, but in this instance we’ve chosen a pair of haulers that can not only live up to the demands of active family life, but do so with a semi-premium Euro twist...

2018 Renault Koleos Life X-tronic (4x2) review

So, before I start off this review I will admit this is a courtesy car while my own car is in for repairs. We have put about 800km on the clock, with mixed-use driving. I was pretty excited to get handed the keys to a practically brand new car, so after signing the forms and saying bye to my car for a little bit, I jumped into the 2018 Koleos...

2018 Renault Koleos Zen (4x2) review

When you think 'medium SUV', you tend to think of those big sellers: RAV4, Tucson, CX-5, even Escape and Tiguan. But then you’ve got one that’s a little different – enter the Renault Koleos Zen 4x2. A whole size bigger than its predecessor, and almost as big as a Hyundai SantaFe, though only with five seats – big, comfy seats at that...

2017 Renault Koleos Intens (4x4) Review

I have owned two previous Koleos's. I picked up my new Intens two weeks ago, which seems to be light years ahead of the old model in terms of space, finish and technology. I looked at the Hyundai Santa Fe and Tuscon, the Kia Sportage, Isuzu, VW Tiguan and Toyota RAV4. Nothing came close in terms of features for the price...

2012 Renault Koleos Privilege (4x4) Review

The CVT petrol transmission and engine combination does need to be improved as the overall acceleration is less than sufficient for this heavy privilege SUV model. Avg fuel economy on premium fuel is currently 11.3L/km which is worse than my old WRX. Perhaps a 2.0L turbo variant might persuade buyers looking at Subaru, Holden or Ford to try something with a little more luxury...
