I always liked the i30, and when this model came out, it set in stone that we needed one. The price point is perfect for what you get, and the list of standard features on this car is one of the longest I have seen.
For ride comfort and lack of cabin noise, it would have to be one of the best in its class in my opinion. It just irons out bumps in the road.
Fuel economy is better than expected out of the punchy little 1.6T paired with the seven-speed DCT. It usually averages 5–7L/100km around town and on the freeway.
The exterior styling of the car is great – it’s low and wide with some very aggressive angles. If there were one thing I wish the car had, it would have to be a slightly more aggressive exhaust note. Understandably, it won’t sound like the new i30N, but it’s a little too quiet for my liking.
Going inside the cabin, the nicely red-accented interior is a nice touch, especially with the red seatbelts. The seats are very comfortable for long drives or the daily commute.
The only issue I have with the interior is the sound system. I believe Hyundai dropped the ball here. It’s not that it’s horrible, it’s just lacking punch. A simple subwoofer in the boot, which they did with the Veloster as well as the Santa Fe, would’ve been perfect.
All in all, for a car in this price range with blind-spot monitoring, auto emergency braking, pre-collision warning, radar-guided cruise control, rear cross-traffic alerts, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated seats, auto hill hold and so on, it’s a perfect investment. A beautifully balanced car with an attractive price and a great factory warranty for peace of mind.
If you haven’t yet considered one and are in the market for a new car, I highly recommend gong to test-drive this car. It will not disappoint. It may even surprise you.
It's safe to say I wasn’t expecting the punch from the 1.6-litre engine, but it has some great get up and go when it’s required, and putting it into ‘Sport’ makes all the difference, tightening up the steering and delaying the shifts. It’s a great car to own and great fun to drive.
