2016 Mazda BT-50 GT (4x4) Review

We entered the new car market with our 18 month-old SR5 HiLux auto dual-cab. We drove three or four competitors before driving into a Mazda dealer. The dealer gave us the keys to a BT-50 GT to go for a test drive and we were immediately blown away with the ride's quietness and the awesome power over our much-loved old HiLux.

The changeover price was right on the money, so we bought it. We have since done 6000km, all with a smile on our faces, and with the consumption figures of highway cycle 7.8 litres per 100km, we're even more impressed.

With our first service still some time off we haven't had a problem. It will be more expensive to service than the HiLux, but being the vehicle it is and how it performs towing our van, we will live with that cost.

Well done, Mazda. We will be heading off soon, towing a caravan for an extended holiday. We have done some local trips with the caravan and have been very impressed with fuel consumption and towing performance over the old HiLux. It's nice being able to head up some fairly serious hills and not end up back in second gear. The Mazda just flies over them.

The GT has a very well appointed leather-trimmed interior that we find very comfortable after many hours on the road. My wife says it doesn't feel like a ute but more like a luxury car to be driven around in, (and we think the new facelift is great too).

Once again, well done, Mazda.
