2005 Holden Commodore Review

Hi all!! My name is Dylon Folley and today I am reviewing my 2005 VZ SV6 Holden Commodore.

When I was in the market for a new car I was considering a few different things like fuel economy, price, power, technology, safety and of course the look and feel of the car.

For me the 05' VZ SV6 ticked all the boxes for me. Being the SV6 it has the sporty look and feel as well as the upgraded 190kw alloytec engine (previous model being the 152kw ecotec) a good reliable v6 engine that has enough power there when needed but nowhere near as thirsty as a v8. The fuel economy in this car is surprisingly good being 11.5L/100km. Holden had also upgraded the steering, suspension and braking in the sv6 compared to previous models and you can really feel it, the sv6 being a lot more responsive and feeling a lot more firm on the road in both cornering and on a straight. Just some of the standard features on this sv6 are sports suspension, ABS brakes, driver and passenger side airbags, full power options (windows, mirrors etc.), 17” alloy wheels and lots more.

Price is always a factor in buying any car no matter what your preference when sold new the sv6 went for $39,490 but when I purchased this vehicle 2nd Hand I paid $12,500 and apart from servicing costs and obviously as they wear replacing tyres, brakes etc. the car has not really cost me a cent it has been one of if not the most reliable cars I personally have ever owned (and I have owned a lot!!!). In my personal experience (me being a mechanic) if you look after your car it will look after you but the sv6 has really surprised me. It is my work car, my daily drive, and my weekend getaway car which also tows my boat and does so without a hassle! This car could not have served me better and I am confident it will continue to serve me for a long time to come.

Being a sedan you would expect it to be spacious and roomy which I think the commodore has always been but for those who don't know this sv6 has more than enough cabin space and a huge boot which can more than accommodate for the family and is also very quiet inside the cabin which is a big improvement for Holden not having any engine noise transferred to the cabin.

To some up this sv6 has been great in almost every way I have needed it to be which is why I rate it a 9/10!! Sporty, spacious, comfortable, practicable, value for money, more than enough grunt for a v6 and what you always want in a car it's reliable.
