VW launch special edition Amarok

German brand adds some sportiness to its workhorse ute.

Volkswagen is offering a special edition Amarok Atacama that includes styling and equipment upgrades.

The Atacama, named after the South American desert, is available on the TDI400 manual and TDI420 automatic dual-cab Amarok variants; which are built in South America.

VW has given the Atacama a sporty edge with new styling including bi-Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, black sports bar and side steps, black rear step bumper and 18-inch black alloy wheels.

The Atacama also features 'Durabed' spray-on ute liner to protect the tray when carrying equipment.

It also comes standard with satellite navigation, auto headlights, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear park assist and a rear view camera.

The Atacama is still powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine as the standard Amarok, which produces 132kW in both variants and 400Nm in six-speed manual guise and 420Nm when mated to the eight-speed automatic transmission.

The TDI400 manual cost $53,990 (plus on-road costs) while the TDI420 auto costs $56,990 (plus on-road costs).
