The Volkswagen Kombi is back – sort of
Volkswagen has applied a liberal dose of nostalgia to its latest special edition Multivan passenger van to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the iconic Kombi.
The Multivan Kombi 70 shares its mechanical package and most of its standard equipment with the Multivan TDI340 Comfortline model, but adds a retro-inspired two-tone paint job in a variety of options including white/yellow, white/blue, white/grey and metallic grey/black.
Other special edition extras include retro-styled 18-inch 'disc' alloy wheels, wood-effect flooring, three seater bench seat, Alcantara upholstery, LED headlights and daytime running lights and, power-sliding side doors.
To revive the original beach camper feel of the original Kombi Volkswagen has also equipped the Kombi 70 with a 'good night package' that adds fabric blinds, a multiflex board bed extension, washable bed cover, rechargeable mini flashlight and three drawers underneath the bench seat.
Power comers from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 103kW and 340Nm driving the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The Multivan Kombi 70 is limited to just 120 examples and is priced from $64,990 driveaway.
Volkswagen has also announced that it will introduce a special edition Amarok V6 Dark Label model to sit between the Highline and Ultimate variants, arriving in April.
The 165kW/550Nm V6 turbocharged diesel powered dual-cab ute will feature several styling upgrades including 18-inch dark grey alloy-wheels, black interior trim and leather upholstery, heated front seats, and black wheel arch flares.
Pricing for the Amarok will be announced closer to launch.
