Toyota trims Tarago price

Prices cut and equipment levels raised for ageing Toyota people mover.

Toyota has trimmed pricing of of its Tarago people mover by up to $1716 while adding extra standard equipment and a new dashboard layout for its ageing full-sized family wagon.

A long-overdue reversing camera has been added across the range thanks to the addition of a 6.1-inch colour touchscreen, which also debuts satellite navigation with live traffic updates on four-cylinder GLi and GLX – and both also drop by $1500 to $45,490 and $47,990 plus on-road costs.

Toyota credits the introduction of Australia's free-trade agreement with Japan for entry pricing that is now at its lowest since 2006, while V6 versions are cheaper than ever.

The V6 GLi and GLX also fall by $1500 to $50,490 and $55,990 plus on-road costs, but the latter benefits most from equipment upgrades including synthetic leather/suede trim and auto-levelling/swivelling high-intensity discharge headlights (HID).

The V6 Ultima falls furthest but benefits least from additions, down $1716 to $65,600 plus on-road costs. It continues to share with the V6 GLX a seven-seat configuration featuring two centre buckets replacing the centre bench and eight-seat format of other Taragos.

Other changes inside include a faux stitched-leather dash-top material, piano black dashboard fascia, touch sensitive climate controls, three-spoke steering wheel and 4.1-inch colour trip computer screen.

The 125kW 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine has an unchanged 8.9L/100km rating, but along with the 202kW 3.5-litre V6 engine rated at 10.2-10.3L/100km, each are now compliant with Euro 5 emissions standards.

Revised electro-mechanical steering is claimed as the single other engineering change.

The GLi continues to wear hubcaps over its 16-inch steel wheels, while the GLX and Ultima include 17-inch alloy wheels.

All models feature seven airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), cruise control and front and rear heater/air-conditioning controls, with GLX and above adding front and rear parking sensors, and V6 versions featuring power sliding rear doors and keyless auto entry. Ultima highlights include dual rear 9.0-inch entertainment screens with DVD player and dual sunroofs.

Premium paint is a single $550 option and the Tarago is covered by Toyota's capped-price servicing program at a cost of $180 for the first six bi-annual or 10,000km checks.
