Toyota Prado’s Lexus Alter-Ego Gets a Makeover

The updated large SUV which is sold in North American and Eurasian markets comes with quite a large set of chompers, with its front grille extending all the way down the front of the car.

While it was updated in 2014 (like the Prado, the GX is now on its second facelift) the new makeover brings the GX closer in line with the design language of its peers in the Lexus SUV range.

Toyota describes the new grille as having a Lexus’ “signature spindle grille that gives it distinctive, standout style”.

What that means is that while the grille is the same size as the previous update, it’s now so prominent that nobody will be missing it.

The update isn’t just all around the face though, the GX has also received a raft of upgrades on the off-road front as well as in safety features.

The new off-road package has been added to the fully kitted-out Luxury model—which is the top of the range.

According to the release, “the package offers proven off-road technologies such as Lexus’ multi-terrain monitor and panoramic view monitors with driver and passenger cameras; transmission cooler; fuel tank protector; crawl control; and multi-terrain select.”

The final big draw of the update for 2020 models is safety; with a new Lexus safety package coming as standard, adding a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, intelligent high beams and high-speed dynamic radar cruise control.

While the GX isn’t available in Australia, the top of the range Prado Kakadu soaks up a lot of features available in the Lexus alter-ego.
