Toyota adds new features to 86

Toyota Australia has announced a number of minor revisions to its 86 range to appease buyer demands – but you’ll have to pay for the privilege.

The base model GT automatic now comes standard with a limited slip differential – adding $300 to its price tag – meaning the entire 86 range now shares the LSD function.

Meanwhile, top spec GTS models now have standard rear spoilers, adding $500 to their respective price tags (taking the manual GTS to $36,490 and the auto to $38,990).

Toyota Australia says the changes were based on external customer feedback.

“The changes were made based on feedback from customers who wanted the automatic GT to have the same dynamic properties as the rest of the range, and for the GTS to have greater external differentiation,” a statement from the company said.

A comprehensive winner at Drive’s Car of the Year awards in 2012, the 86 has injected strong interest into the Toyota brand from prospective performance buyers.

Since its introduction to the Australian market 15 months ago, the rear-drive sports car has attracted more than 4800 sales.

The local changes come as Toyota considers different ways to boost the 86’s 147kW/205Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine.
