Tesla all-in on all-wheel drive
Electric car maker simplifies Model S lineups.
What do Tesla and Subaru have in common? Both brands are now focused on all-wheel drive, with the American electric car maker ditching its entry-level two-wheel drive Model S.
From now on all Model S sedans and Model X SUVs will come equipped with the company’s dual-motor setup, that has an electric motor on each axle to provide all-wheel drive traction.
That means the Model S 75 has been replaced in the range by the 75D. But in good news for wouldbe customers the price of the car hasn’t increased. In fact, the price has dropped by $368 to $130,331 drive-away for the Model S 75D.
The 75D has a claimed range between charges of 667km. The more powerful 100D can reportedly travel up to 849km while the P100D, which features a high performance dual motor on the rear axle, has a theoretical range of 819km.
The Model X mirrors the range with the 75D, 100D and P100D. The SUV range is priced from $139,834 drive-away.
