Suzuki confirms on-sale for new Jimny, Vitara

Suzuki has confirmed its highly anticipated Jimny and updated Vitara will officially go on sale next month.

Already racking up over 200 pre-orders - sight unseen and before pricing and specification has been confirmed - for the Jimny, Suzuki Australia says undecided enthusiasts will be able to test drive the Japanese 4x4 cult car from January 26 2019.

The fourth-generation small off-roader continues to ride on a ladder-frame chassis with dual-range transmission and front and rear live axles, while outside harks back to the original model with strong retro design.

Specification is yet to be confirmed, but the Jimny will come with the choice of either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission mated to a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine producing 75kW and 130Nm. Though light on output, the Jimny’s diminutive proportions mean it is a featherweight.

Joining the Jimny in showrooms on Australia Day will be the Vitara Series 2 that brings a facelift and updated safety features such as AEB and lane departure warning but drops the 1.6-litre diesel engine in favour of a petrol-only lineup.

“Both the Jimny and Vitara have a strong heritage and following in Australia, which has been none more evident than the demand for pre-orders since the all-new Jimny was confirmed for the Australian market,” said Suzuki Australia General Manager Michael Pachota.

“The Vitara that Australian’s know and love only gets better with considerable improvements to safety and design. The new Vitara will certainly continue to maintain its outstanding value for money for consumers.”
