New cars spied this week

Supercars a-plenty as the Frankfurt motor show approaches.

Ferrari F12 Speciale

We've already had a glimpse of the prancing horse's new supercar, the F12 Speciale, but now photos have surfaced of the of it undergoing testing.

The car features an extended paddle that sweeps over the floating "aero bridge" over its front flanks, along with a pronounced carbon fibre splitter on its chin.

New side skirts have downward extensions that direct air around back wheels covered by revised arches with three air vents slashed through its skin.

At the rear, a newly sculpted bootlip has been extended skyward for additional downforce, a job helped by a larger rear diffuser and revised exhaust outlets guided by new carbon fibre surrounds.

Set to build on the performance of the existing F12, the car will use an evolution of the 545kW 6.3-litre V12 of the current model tuned to produce closer to 600kW. The machine is likely to retain use of the brand's seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and rear-wheel-drive layout in a similar spirit to the 599 GTO special that improved on the previous-generation 599 GTB.

It is not confirmed whether the F12 will get the brand's hybrid technology seen in the La Ferrari.

There is a chance the new supercar could debut at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show.

BMW M4 GTS

BMW has recently revealed its M4 GTS performance hero concept, but the production version has been spotted, confirming the hardcore track-focused road racer is not far away.

The German brand will debut its new innovative water injection system for its twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine.

This new water injection system will boost the power from the regular M4 by eight per cent taking the new M4's power figure to 342kW.

The production version will get a new splitter on the front bumper and a rear wing.

The new M4 GTS will hit the showrooms in 2016 in time for the brand's 100 year anniversary.

Audi R8 Spyder

As surely as night follows day a convertible version of a supercar will follow the launch of the regular version.

Audi's new R8 Spyder has now been spotted testing not long after Drive sampled its new couple sibling.

Not much will change from the coupe variant, it will retain the same 5.2-litre V10 engine which produces 397kW and 540Nm and is capable of hitting 100km/h in 3.5 seconds.

The new R8 Spyder will also be available in the more powerful Plus spec.

With the production version Spyder already undergoing testing it should arrive sometime in the second half of 2016.

Jaguar F-Type RS

British brand's new high-performance drop-top has been caught testing.

When 410kW is simply not enough to kick start your heart, then just wait for this 450kW monster to drop.

Jaguar has developed a new F-Type to sit atop its already raucous R variant, the new F-Type RS.

The new roadster will get a higher tuned version of the brand's V8 found in the current top-spec drop-top.

It will also receive some sportier kit such a front and rear spoilers, carbon-ceramic brakes and carbon rear-view mirrors.

The new F-Type could be shown at the upcoming Frankfurt motor show in September.

Porsche 911

The German brand has been caught testing its facelifted Porsche 911.

As this is a Porsche we don't expect any sort of actual 'facelift'.

The biggest change will come in the form of new turbocharged engines, which were recently unveiled.

The major addition is a new turbocharged flat six-cylinder engine which will replace the traditional naturally-aspirated six-cylinder boxer.

In the facelifted 911 will have a capacity of 3.0 litres and up to 275kW while in sportier models the turbocharged flat six capacity is expected to rise to 3.5-litres to achieve an output of around 310kW.

The new 911 will also get a new steering wheel, which is the same as the one featured on the 918 Spyder.

The refreshed 911 is expected to be revealed at the upcoming Frankfurt motor show.

Hyundai Genesis

Spy photographers have spotted Hyundai's updated Genesis sedan undergoing testing.

The South Korean brand's flagship will get a twin-turbo V6 engine, which will have comparable output figures to the 5.0-litre V8 which is not currently offered in Australia.

The new engine is expected to be a 3.3-litre and put out 313kW.

The prototype is wearing a new bumper with an opening below the front grille.

The new Genesis is expected to get some styling cues from the brand's recently revealed Vision G concept albeit toned down somewhat from the radical concept.

The refreshed Genesis is expected with the new engine in 2017 or 2018.
