New Audi A5 and S5 Sportback revealed

German brand reveals its new four-door coupe range.

Audi has unveiled its second-generation A5 Sportback, seven years after the original variant broke cover.

In typical fashion for the mid-size prestige segment Audi hasn't broken the mould on styling, but rather tweaked the car's generally conservative exterior to give it a bolder and fresher look. The new A5 Sportback features flared rear wheel arches and an overall wider, more masculine stance while a power dome over the engine flows out and back from the Audi badge. Its body lines flow pleasantly from front to back with the coupe styling transferring smartly into a horizontal clean rear end with three-dimensional rear LED lights.

The interior matches the exteriors classy style, with the brand's virtual cockpit display the big drawcard with clever air-conditioning controls that feature digital displays inside the dials. It also features a seven-inch touchscreen with navigation and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it also comes with the option of rear-seat tablet.

Audi is offering five engine variants, two petrol and three diesel. Two 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol units produce either 140kW/320Nm or 185kW/370Nm. The three diesel units consist of a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine good for 140kW and 400Nm while the two six-cylinder 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel variants make 160kW/400Nm and 210kW/620Nm

The A5 Sportback is available with an array of transmissions including six-speed manual, seven-speed dual-clutch auto and an eight-speed automatic.

The top-spec 3.0 TDI version gets all-wheel drive as standard while all other variants come standard with front-wheel drive with the option to upgrade to Audi's quattro system.

The new Audi S5 Sportback, which rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, is powered by a new 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine which produces 260kW and 500Nm and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with power delivered to all four wheels.

The added performance helps the S5 accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

Audi has also added new sports suspension a continuous damping control system and various driving modes.

The exterior has been tweaked to feature contours on the front bumper, air inlets and side sills while the rear gets a black honeycomb grille and four tailpipes.
