New Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti revealed

New top shelf variant joins Alfa Romeo's debut SUV range.

The Italian brand launched its first-ever SUV in Australia earlier in 2018 that initially was offered with only a single petrol and diesel option along with a higher-specified limited-run Launch Edition of each.

However, Alfa Romeo has expanded the range by adding a new Ti petrol variant that is priced from $78,900 before on-road costs. The price represents a jump of $13,000 over the base Stelvio and $7000 over the Launch Edition.

The Stelvio is priced above rivals like the $73,211 Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI and $76,900 BMW X3 30i, though it does offer up more performance.

Alfa Romeo squeezes extra grunt from the brand's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine offering outputs of 206kW and 400Nm, a jump of 58kW and 70Nm over the existing petrol-powered variants in the range. These figures surpass the Audi's 185kW/370Nm and the BMW's 185kW/350Nm.

Like all Stelvios the Ti is equipped with an eight-speed automatic that drives all four wheels with a rear-wheel bias that is enhanced thanks to a rear mechanical limited slip differential.

The Stelvio scores a range of active safety systems like forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and front and rear parking sensors. The Stelvio recently achieved a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Inside a 400watt 10-speaker stereo, a flat-bottom F1-inspired steering wheel, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paddle shifters and leather upholstery add to the car's upscale feel.
