Michael Fassbender’s ‘Road to Le Mans’ documentary film released

Michael Fassbender – of Inglorious Basterds and X-Men fame – stars in a 1.5-hour documentary centring on his racing career and attempts to win Le Mans.

Irish actor Michael Fassbender and German car-maker Porsche have released a 90-minute film online, documenting the pair’s journey to race at the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Uploaded to video-sharing platform YouTube, Road to Le Mans: The Film comes after four online-only seasons of Road to Le Mans, which detailed Fassbender’s rise from national-level Porsche championships to racing for the iconic marque at the French endurance race.

While previous seasons detailed specific years of Fassbender’s racing career, the hour-and-a-half documentary condenses the story into one video and includes footage from the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The German-born and Irish-raised actor had raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2022, driving a Porsche 911 RSR alongside Australian racer – and former event winner – Matt Campbell and Canadian Zacharie Robichon, finishing 16th in class and 51st overall.

Though Fassbender returned in 2023, he was behind the wheel of the team’s Porsche 911 when it crashed out of the race with less than five hours to run, giving them a DNF (did not finish) result.

It’s not yet clear what the actor’s racing plans are for 2024, as the Proton Competition team he races for – owned by actor Patrick Dempsey – is moving to run Ford Mustang GT3s next year, whereas Fassbender has always been aligned with Porsche.

The full Road to Le Mans: The Film documentary is now available to watch on Porsche’s YouTube account, with 4K resolution available.
