Mercedes-AMG’s most popular model revealed

The CLA45 has emerged as the most popular variant in Mercedes' Australian AMG line-up, the four-cylinder pocket rocket making up one in every three sales this year. Provisional year-to-date figures obtained by Drive show the CLA45 as the clear leader within the AMG Australia range. More than 700 AMG versions have sold so far this year, well ahead of the matching A45 AMG hatch, which has amassed just over 500 sales during the same time.

The four-cylinder sales assault has helped AMG secure more than 2000 transactions so far this year, with both the CLA45 and the A45 named as key proponents in the car maker's bid to exceed a record 3500 sales.

"The biggest selling AMG year-to-date is CLA45. We're meeting demand with both at the moment, but they're still proving to be very popular," said Mercedes-Benz Australia corporate communications manager David McCarthy.

Mercedes-AMG has enjoyed a sales renaissance in recent years, with Australia proving to be the biggest performance market per capita in the world. At under $100,000, the four-cylinder duo have also facilitated many first time AMG buyers to the brand in Australia.

McCarthy said there was sustained interest in the brand's traditional V8 models as well, something that is set to be bolstered by the freshly-released C63 sedan.

"The new GT is sold out until the middle of next year. We've also got the new E-Class next year and E63 will be quite late in the year, so I expect quite a lot of demand for those," he said.
