Mazda 3 driver busted at 224km/h, police seize dash cam footage and find other speeding offences

A driver of a Mazda 3 hatchback has been charged with dangerous speeding offences after being busted twice travelling at more than 200km/h.

The owner of a turbocharged Mazda 3 hot hatch will have plenty of time to contemplate his actions after blasting past police radar at excessive speed.

Highway patrol officers from the Newcastle region about 200km north of Sydney initially detected the speeding car on radar at 116km/h in a 70km/h zone.

However, the speeding Mazda was only just getting wound up, and continued to accelerate.

By the time highway patrol officers caught up with the Mazda 3 they checked its speed at 224km/h in a 100km/h zone.

"The 24-year-old male was issued a Court Attendance Notice for exceed speed over 45km/h and drive at a speed dangerous and will appear at Newcastle Local Court," police reported on social media.

The driver's licence was suspended and the number plates of the vehicle were seized, police said.

"The vehicle was fitted with a dash-camera that police seized," police added.

"Just prior to passing the stationary police vehicle, the male had driven across the Stockton Bridge and his dash-camera speed was recorded at 204 km/h. Stockton Bridge speed limit is 80 km/h."
