Maserati Australia has added a 3.0 litre turbo diesel engine to the Quattroporte, bringing the price of entry to the large sedan range to $198,800, before on-road costs.
That's over $40k less than the twin-turbo V6 Quattroporte S, though Maserati expects only 10 percent of Quattroporte buyers to opt for the diesel.
The Quattroporte Turbo Diesel's 3.0 litre single-turbo diesel V6 produces 202kW and 600Nm, and is the same unit as used in the Quattroporte's smaller sibling, the Ghibli. An eight-speed automatic is the sole transmission available.
Performance is reasonably brisk, with the Quattroporte Turbo Diesel hitting 100km/h in 6.4 seconds.
That's still some distance off the 5.1 second 0-100km/h time of the Quattroporte S though, not to mention the 4.7 second sprint time of the twin-turbo V8 Quattroporte GTS.
