Lamborghini Terzo Millenio Concept revealed
Italian brand showcases electric hypercar
This is Lamborghini's wild vision of the future.
The Italian brand's Terzo Millenio concept has been developed in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to showcase new technologies in propulsion, construction and energy storage while providing a glimpse at a radical design direction that could dictate the look of the company's next-generation flagship supercar to replace the current Aventador.
While Lamborghini continues to claim its iconic V12 engine will remain a staple of its future line-up, the Terzo Millenio concept skips a generation to highlight what an all-electric supercar from the famed Italian brand could conceivably look and drive like.
Unlike other contemporary concepts, the Terzo Millenio foregoes a heavy battery pack in favour of high-energy supercapacitors which provide instant power to in-wheel motors at each corner of the car.
It has yet to outline performance credentials for the car, including power outputs and its potential top speed, but it has said it will continue to provide the emotional elements of its current vehicles and is working on generating a sound that suits its character.
More interestingly, Lamborghini and MIT are working on using the car's carbon fibre body construction and panels to store energy and house the supercapacitors. The body work would also have a monitoring system that can detect cracks or any accidental damage and initiate a self-healing process, potentially saving owners tens of thousands of dollars for minor repair work.
