Lamborghini begins a year of 60th birthday celebrations

Italian supercar icon Lamborghini has begun its 60th anniversary celebrations, opening the doors to its newly renovated museum in Sant’Agata, Bologna with an exhibition called The Future Began in 1963.

It’s the first of a year of celebrations that will see Lamborghini take centre stage at a number of events around the world.

Lamborghini celebrates 60 years on 6 May, 1963, the day that company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini established Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini in Sant’Agata, about 25km from Bologna in Italy.

As history shows, Lamborghini initially went into business making tractors – but switched to motor vehicles after Ferrari reportedly refused to sell one of its supercars to the owner of the agricultural company.

The first car to come from the newly-established factory was the Lamborghini 350 GT.

Since then, Lamborghini has produced some of the most iconic supercars in the history of automotive, models like Miura, Countach, Diablo, and Aventador creating a template for what it means to be a ‘supercar’.

The 60th birthday celebrations get underway in earnest next week, at the Suzuka circuit in Japan, where it’s expected hundreds of collectors and enthusiasts of the brand will assemble, along with their prized cars.

Similar events are planned at Silverstone in the UK, in the US, and in China later in the year.

The centrepiece of Lamborghini’s celebrations will be 60th Anniversario Giro in Italy, set for late May while in October, track-focused Lamborghinis will enjoy their own celebrations at the inaugural Lamborghini Festival, hosted at the Vallelunga circuit in Rome.
