Jaguar XJ Limo-Green concept to appear at Frankfurt
Jaguar is set to show its new hybrid system in the form of an XJ sedan, dubbed Limo-Green concept, at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Limo-Green concept will driven by a 145kw/399Nm electric motor backed by a lithium-ion battery pack. The all-electric range is said to be just shy of 50 kilometres after which time a 1.2-litre, three-cyclinder Lotus petrol engine - known as the Range Extender - provides charge for an additional 960km.
Although the concept is essentially a working model, Jaguar says the system still needs some refining.
“The technology is still in its infancy and there is still a lot of work to do before we can even think of production,” said Mr Anthony Harper, head of research at Jaguar Land Rover. “The components aren’t at the right cost or quality yet you would expect of a Jaguar product, but the technology is there.”
Timing could see this technology ready for the next generation XJ series due in 2012-13.
