Iconic Holden Monaro expected to break records at auction

An unrestored and unmolested 1968 Holden HK Monaro GTS327 is expected to reach a record price when it goes under the hammer at Lloyds Auctions on Saturday.

With an indicated 57,000 miles (91,000km) on the odometer, the unrestored example is powered by Holden’s iconic 327ci (5.4-litre) V8.

Finished in factory Silver Mink paint, the matching numbers Monaro remains in original condition inside and out and comes complete with its owner’s manual and its original NSW licence plates from when it was first registered.

The 327ci (5363cc) V8 was good for 186kW and 439Nm back in the day, good enough to propel the sleek coupe from 0-96km/h in just 7.6 seconds.

A four-speed manual gearbox sent drive to the rear wheels.

“This is an iconic vehicle that all Aussies love and it will only continue to increase in value as they become harder to find,” said Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer for Lloyds Auctions.

Hames added he expected this example the final price to reach in excess of $500,000.

In October 2020, a similar HK Monaro sold for $320,000 at auction while a Bathurst-raced example fell under the hammer for $750,000 in June, 2020.

The auction is live now with the current bid at $152,000. The auction ends at around midday tomorrow.
