Hyundai Elantra SR Turbo details

Hyundai has revealed the details of its new hot hatch rivalling Elantra SR Turbo.

The warmed up small sedan boasts a turbocharged engine, new suspension that has been tuned for local conditions, new brakes and added equipment.

Under the bonnet is a 150kW/265Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged four-cylinder engine - replacing the usual 2.0-litre non-turbo four-cylinder - paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The chassis has been re-worked to handle the extra performance and includes the adoption of new independent rear suspension featured on the new generation i30 hatchback. As has been the case with most modern Hyundai models, the SR Turbo has been tailored for Australian roads by the local operation tuning the suspension and steering. The front brake discs are also larger (25mm in diameter and with 2mm more thickness).

The Elantra also gets a new bodykit to toughen up its looks as well as 17-inch alloy wheels.

Other standard gear includes bi-Xenon headlights, alloy sports pedals, carbon-fibre effect dashboard and door inserts, red-stitched interior upholstery, heated front sports seats, flat-bottom steering wheel and sunroof. There's also an optional red leather interior treatment available.

Standard safety items include blind spot warning, lane departure warning and rear cross traffic alert.

The Elantra SR Turbo will top the range with a starting price of $28,990 (plus on-road costs) for the manual and $31,290 for the automatic.
