How Honda charges more than Ferrari

Forged 20-inch alloy wheels on a Ferrari 812 Superfast cost $9700.

The Honda Civic Type-R? A set of forged alloy wheels will cost you $13,999.

Yep, you read that right. That’s a set of wheels for 27 per cent of the entire cost of the car.

Honda has released a range of accessories to add to the Civic Type R’s polarising aesthetics, including white “motorsport-inspired” wheels and genuine carbon fibre components.

The 20-inch forged alloy wheels are stronger and lighter than before - saving 2.1kg per wheel - each with a distinctive red centre cap.

Honda says the bespoke wheels will improve the Type R’s suspension response as well as the car's handling and grip thanks to the significant weight saving.

The new wheels are said to be inspired by the DC2 Integra Type R from 1999, the first Honda Type R introduced to Australia.

Carbon fibre extras include a rear spoiler ($2899) and rear diffuser ($1999), side mirrors ($1299), interior trim ($1699) and door sills ($1599).

The range will be available to customers at dealerships across the country from October 1.

Honda Australia director, Stephen Collins says there is a niche market for bespoke, low-volume items that will appeal to motoring enthusiasts.

“It is very important for us to support these customers with the very best that Honda globally has to offer,” he says.
