Great Scott! Marty McFly’s ‘Back to the Future’ Toyota HiLux now available as a Playmobil set

The German toy line adds another pop-culture hero to its library of licenced playsets.

"Check out that four-by-four!"

Marty McFly sure could pick a nice set of wheels back in 1985 Hill Valley. The 'lesser' vehicle from the iconic Back to the Future film series was a black 1985 Toyota HiLux space-cab ute, with yellow-covered KC-Daylighter spot lamps and black tubular sports bars.

It was then, and still is, a pretty cool truck.

And now you can have your own, thanks to Playmobil.

The HiLux playset joins the DeLorean Time Machine, Hoverboard chase and Marty playing Johnny B Goode in the Playmobil 'BTTF' catalogue, and while it doesn't have a photorealistic link to it's cinema source material, the kit looks like plenty of fun for Back to the Future fans, young and old.

The ute, measuring 25cm long by 12cm wide, is joined by Marty, Jennifer and even a Biff Tannen figure, plus Jennifer's handbag and Biff's detailing equipment. Speaking from experience, you'll lose those small accessories within the first week.

Unlike the DeLorean set, which lights up (and includes minature vials of plutonium), the HiLux doesn't require any batteries.

The ute needs to be assembled, and while not as flexibly creative as Lego, Playmobil tends to offer a very high level of quality, which should see Marty withstand even the most robust challenges of 'chicken'.

The kit is now available to order from retailers for approximately $80.
