Ford Ranger Raptor owner builds matching trailer

Is the tray of your Ford Ranger not long enough? One resourceful owner in New Zealand has created a dual-axle trailer to match their Raptor.

A man in New Zealand has used the trays of two other Ford Ranger utes to create a tandem-axle trailer to tow behind his real Ford Ranger Raptor.

Facebook user Lawrence Fisher images of his creation – dubbed the 'Raptrailer' – which merges the two tubs of two new Ford Rangers, paired with a custom-made galvanised chassis and six-stud axles.

All up, three Ford Ranger tubs were used to gather the parts necessary, according to Mr Fisher – and it rides on wheels from a previous-generation Ranger Wildtrak.

Based on the images posted to Facebook, the two tubs were welded at the front – allowing the two original tailgates to remain functional at each end. Both sets of lights also reportedly remain functional.

The trailer wears Raptor stickers – though it appears to wear the standard-width wheel arches of cheaper Ranger models. The steps in the side of the tub have been retained in the conversion.

Dimensions for the trailer are not given, however it is estimated to measure about 2.5 to three metres long – based on the length of the regular Ford Ranger's tub – with the same 1.5-metre width as the standard ute.

Mr Fisher said he has wanted to build this trailer – pictured behind his current Ford Ranger Raptor – since he purchasing his first Ranger Wildtrak in 2015.

The owner says he does not plan to build more examples for others to order, however he expressed interest in drawing up plans for a single-axle variant, and another with a tipping function.
