Electric 2024 Porsche Macan battery and power figures confirmed – report

More details of the battery-powered Porsche Macan SUV have been revealed ahead of its full unveiling, with higher levels of performance promised.

The electric 2024 Porsche Macan will produce 450kW from dual electric motors, according to a senior manager at the German car-maker.

Porsche’s head of powertrain for the project, Antoon Janssen, confirmed to UK’s Autocar the electric Macan will send 450kW and 1000Nm to all four wheels through electric motors mounted at each axle.

All variants of the Macan will receive a 100kWh lithium-ion battery, which should be enough to offer a driving range of approximately 500 kilometres – exceeding the Taycan’s best driving range of 484km.

While the electric motors are similar to those used in the Taycan, Porsche has updated the motors from a silicon semiconductor design to silicon-carbide, which is said to reduce losses – effectively ensuring a higher percentage of power gets from the battery to the wheels.

Mr Janssen wouldn’t confirm whether the Macan would receive ‘overboost’ – an overtaking function which temporarily increases the car’s power outputs – but he did indicate the front motor could be decoupled from the axle to reduce rolling resistance when at speed.

Up to five degrees of rear-wheel steering is available to help manoeuvre the SUV at speeds below 80km/h, with much wider rear tyres to be fitted to help handling and take advantage of the 49:51 front-to-rear weight bias.

With the petrol-powered Macan dropping its Turbo variant in recent times, the name could be applied to electric versions of the SUV in the future, bringing it into line with the Taycan’s nomenclature – denoting the range-topping models.

The electric 2024 Porsche Macan was expected to begin deliveries in the second half of 2024 – with the vehicle’s full unveiling to occur in the coming months – but the company has now pushed production to the following year due to software delays.
