Drive Safer TV special reaches over 430,000 viewers

Road safety is clearly front of mind for Australians, as over 430,000 viewers tune in for Drive TV road safety special

Drive's most recent TV special, Drive Safer, which screened on Channel 9 last Sunday 24 September at 1:00 pm, reached 432,000* viewers in both metro and regional markets on its first time airing. This was made up of 410,000 viewers on free-to-air television and a further 23,000 streams on 9Now. This accounts for a 26 per cent share of all commercial TV audience during the one-hour timeslot.

Drive Safer sees Drive's Managing Editor, Trent Nikolic, speak with industry experts about understanding, preparing, driving and towing in a manner that is not only safer for the driver but for all other road users as well.

Executive Producer Terry King notes "Channel Nine's recent broadcast, Drive Safer, has evidently struck a chord with Australian viewers. Audience metrics reveal a marked increase in viewership as the feature progressed, highlighting the nation's keen interest in enhancing driving skills and comprehending emerging automotive technologies."

Through practical advice, tips and demonstrations, the goal of Drive Safer was to elevate awareness for safer driving techniques as well as help promote a better attitude for drivers on the road.

Furthermore, the TV special launched a campaign to promote the implementation of a nationally recognised towing endorsement for Australian driver's licences as a way of providing a tangible outcome to the show. So far, the petition has attracted over 500 signatures in just two days.

Drive Safer is the third hour-long Drive TV special produced by the Drive team, and follows two successful electric vehicle documentaries as well as 50 episodes od the Drive TV lifestyle program.

Drive TV season 6 is in production now and will return to Channel 9 in October 2023.
