Buzzard Buggy from ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ set to sell at online auction
Combining a Mitsubishi L300 chassis, agricultural tyres, and a Hillman Minx body, this hot rod fits perfectly into a post-apocalyptic setting.
A Buzzard Buggy built for George Miller’s 2015 movie Mad Max: Fury Road has emerged for sale online.
Listed through the Propstore Auction website, this Buzzard Buggy reportedly is made up of a Mitsubishi L300 chassis and a 1948 Hillman Minx body.
As is the case with all prop vehicles in the Mad Max: Fury Road universe, the vehicle has been made to look like it has survived an apocalyptic event, with large all-terrain tyres, distressed paint, and side-exit exhausts.
Though the listing doesn’t reveal any information about what is powering the Buggy, images show what looks to be the original Mitsubishi 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
On the inside, the Hillman’s interior has been entirely stripped, leaving a roll cage, seat, and driving controls.
The listing says the Buggy was fitted with a battery kill switch and a hydraulic handbrake — which locks up the rear wheels instantly — in preparation for filming.
Despite being completed for the movie’s production, this particular Buggy did not make the final cut, as Buzzard’s depicted were fitted with rusted metal spikes.
According to the listing, the vehicle’s original fuel tank was removed following filming, but a race fuel cell has been installed since.
It should go without saying, but the listing also says this vehicle is designed for display purposes only, and not street use.
The Buzzard Buggy will be auctioned by Propstore Auction on 12 March 2024 through a livestream, with a starting bid of $US5000 ($AU7600).
It is estimated to sell between $US10,000 and $US20,000 ($AU$15,000 and $AU30,000).
