Audi A6 2.0 TDI, 2.0 TFSI on sale in Australia
The entry-level variants of the Audi A6 are now on sale in Australia. Both front-wheel drive models bring new engines to the line-up and prices below $80,000.
The first new model is the Audi A6 2.0 TFSI. Its four-cylinder turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine produces 132kW of power and 320Nm of torque (up 7kW/40Nm over the old model). Accelerating from 0-100km/h takes 8.3 seconds (two tenths quicker than before) and it will kick all the way on to its 226km/h top speed.
Like every model in the new Audi A6 range, the 2.0 TFSI incorporates start-stop technology and brake energy recuperation, as well as a lightweight engine construction and aluminium body components.
This all contributes to a combined cycle fuel consumption of 6.4 litres/100km (down from 7.7 litres/100km), putting the executive sedan on par with most small cars.
The 2.0 TDI is even more frugal, using just 5.0 litres/100km combined (down from 5.8 litres/100km). The 130kW/380Nm four-cylinder diesel engine is 5kW/30Nm more powerful than the old model. Peak torque is available from 1750rpm.
Despite being more efficient than the 2.0 TFSI, the entry-level diesel is quicker too, completing the 0-100km/h dash in 8.2 seconds.
Both new engines are teamed with Audi’s multitronic continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The price of the diesel model has increased $3600 over the old model while the new petrol model is $700 cheaper than before.
Compared with the higher models, the new 2.0-litre models miss out on the S line exterior package (a $5760 option), glass sunroof ($2280) and a steering wheel with paddle shifters ($530).
Both models come with 17-inch 10-spoke aluminium wheels, as well as MMI navigation with eight-inch monitor, Bluetooth with audio streaming, leather upholstery, and a range of other features.
