Audi has unveiled its special new A3 Sedan Concept at this week's Geneva Motor Show, hot on the heels of a number of leaked images that surfaced online earlier today.
Based on the current RS 3 flagship hot hatch, Audi describes the concept as a 'class notchback' sedan, and at 4440mm long, it is 155mm longer than the current A3 hatch.
Styled to preview a potential top-shelf RS model, the A3 Sedan concept is powered by Audi's 2.5 litre five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, sending power to all four wheels through Audi's quattro system and seven-speed S tronic transmission.
Unlike the RS 3, which utilises a version of the same engine, the A3 Sedan concept is packing 300kW and 500Nm of torque - 50kW and 50Nm up on the all-wheel-drive hot hatch.
The concept's performance figures are similarly impressive, the enhanced engine pushing the small sedan to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds - half a second quicker than the RS 3 will manage.
Behind the concept's 20-inch wheels, suspension is managed up front by McPherson type struts, with a four-link arrangement at the rear. The front track measures 1572mm wide, while the rear is shorter at 1542mm.
Importantly, the A3 Sedan concept also offers a first look at the sharp styling of the next-generation A3 line-up, which has been spied testing in Europe for the past year.
The all-new A3 is expected to make its international production debut in the second half of 2012. This sedan concept shows that a notchback is likely to figure among the growing number of models under the A3 badge.
